Este sistema ten\u00eda como ambicioso objetivo, otorgar a las Fuerzas terrestres la capacidad de realizar fuegos precisos con artiller\u00eda de tubo, hasta una distancia de m\u00e1s de 1000 millas. Por esa raz\u00f3n y \u00a0como los Fuegos precisos de largo alcance (LRPF) son una de las seis prioridades de modernizaci\u00f3n de esa fuerza establecidos en 2017, se ha resuelto hacer un mejor uso de los recursos presupuestarios, evitando as\u00ed redundancias y enfocando el esfuerzo en programas actualmente en avanzado estado de desarrollo, como el <strong>ERCA<\/strong>\u00a0(Extended Range cannon Artillery), el\u00a0<strong>LRHW<\/strong>\u00a0(Long Range Hypersonic Wespons) y el\u00a0<strong>PrSM<\/strong>\u00a0(Precision Strike Missile) entre otros.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 The U.S. Army has decided to cancel the science and technology research effort for a potential program to develop a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/ausa\/2019\/10\/16\/strategic-long-range-cannon-preps-to-jump-its-first-tech-hurdle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strategic long-range cannon<\/a>, the service confirmed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2018\/03\/20\/army-to-demonstrate-precision-strike-hypersonics-and-ramjet-capabilities-in-just-a-few-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Long-Range Precision Fires<\/a>\u00a0is a top priority for the Army when it comes to developing a modernized force capable of facing off against near-peer adversaries like China. The Strategic Long-Range Cannon, or SLRC, could provide a way to achieve artillery ranges of 1,000 nautical miles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Congress directed the Army to stop funding the long-range cannon in its fiscal 2022 appropriations act, and \u201cbased on that direction, the Secretary of the Army decided to terminate the [SLRC] project this year,\u201d Ellen Lovett, Army spokesperson said in a May 20 statement to Defense News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The decision also \u201celiminates potential redundancy, and ensures we effectively use tax dollars to achieve modernization objectives,\u201d she wrote. \u201cPursuing the effort could cost billions of dollars even if the science and technology effort succeeded because the Army would have to enter into a development program, procure the system, and create entirely new units to operate it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Army still has four other long-range fires programs set to reach operational Army units in 2023:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/global-force-symposium\/2021\/03\/18\/us-army-nears-choosing-first-battalion-for-extended-range-cannon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA)<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/breaking-news\/2021\/10\/07\/dark-eagle-has-landed-us-army-finishes-equipping-first-unit-with-hypersonic-capability-minus-the-missiles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW)<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2021\/06\/21\/us-armys-first-mid-range-missile-battery-coming-in-fy23-with-three-to-follow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mid-Range anti-ship Missile (MRC)<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/ausa\/2021\/10\/14\/us-armys-precision-strike-missile-breaks-distance-record-in-flight-test\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Precision Strike Missile (PrSM<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cAny unused funds originally allocated to LRC will be reapplied against other S&amp;T projects in accordance with the direction of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisitions, Logistics and Technology,\u201d Lovett stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">During a House Armed Services Tactical Air and Land Forces subcommittee hearing last week, Army acquisition chief Doug Bush told lawmakers the decision to cancel the S&amp;T effort for the SLRC was to avoid \u201credundancy\u201d and \u201cpotential cost implications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">While full cost estimates are not normally made for programs in the S&amp;T phase, Bush said \u201cwe did feel we had sufficient information based on similar programs that are in development and to understand the rough scope of such an effort, and the secretary believes that was enough information to support her decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Some work on the SLRC S&amp;T effort was ongoing, but the Army had mostly taken a pause as it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2021\/03\/09\/strategic-long-range-cannon-effort-in-holding-pattern-ahead-of-tech-feasibility-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">waited for a National Academy of Sciences report<\/a>\u00a0on the cannon\u2019s technical feasibility, Brig. Gen. John Rafferty, who oversees the service\u2019s long-range precision fires development, told Defense News in March 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The independent study, congressionally mandated in FY20, was expected to be released last year, but has yet to be made public.
