Los test realizados junto con la Israel Missile Defense Organization y la empresa RAFAEL, fabricante del lD, tuvieron como objetivo verificar la completa interoperabilidad con sistemas en servicio actualmente en el US Army. Como parte del adiestramiento operacional de esa Fuerza, las tropas \u00a0operaron el sistema que funcion\u00f3 con eficiencia, neutralizando una variedad de amenazas, que fueron interceptadas en diferentes condiciones y distancias de ataque.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">JERUSALEM \u2014 The U.S. Army has completed an interceptor test of the Iron Dome air defense system, the second event of its kind since two batteries were supplied to the service at the end of 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The newly revealed test at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, which took place in mid-June, was carried out in conjunction with the Israel Missile Defense Organization, according to a statement from the Israeli Defense Ministry. Moshe Patel, the director of the organization, said that during the test, \u201cthe system intercepted all the threats, while being interoperable with U.S. systems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The ministry noted the test \u201ctook a critical step toward fielding the first of two Iron Dome Defense System-Army (IDDS-A) batteries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cAs part of the U.S. Army\u2019s operational training, American troops operated the system, which functioned with optimal effectiveness against a variety of threats and intercepted targets from different ranges,\u201d said Pini Yungman, an executive vice president and head of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems\u2019 air and missile defense unit. The Israeli company helps manufacture Iron Dome.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Statements from the Defense Ministry and Rafael both noted that testing \u201cprepares the system for U.S. operational forces\u2019 use by ensuring it meets U.S. Army safety standards and that the system will effectively operate within the U.S. AMD [air and missile defense] architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">According to the statements, the U.S. Army plans to field the two Iron Dome Defense System-Army batteries as an interim cruise missile defense solution. The service has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2022\/03\/29\/us-army-prepares-to-choose-homes-for-iron-dome-weapons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deployed one Iron Dome system to Guam<\/a>\u00a0since the fall of 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s important to understand that implementation for the U.S. is about the ability to integrate this system into our air defense picture,\u201d said Maj. Gen. Brian Gibson, director of the U.S. Army\u2019s Air and Missile Defense Cross-Functional Team, said following the test. \u201cWe need to integrate this into our U.S. architecture, and to give confidence to our regional commanders that we can integrate this system safely into what they have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Iron Dome is designed for use at fixed and semi-fixed locations to defend against \u201csub-sonic Cruise Missiles (CM), Groups 2 and 3 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), and rockets, artillery, and mortar threats,\u201d the statement added, referring to a system by which drones are categorized by weight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The test comes two weeks after the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2022\/07\/19\/us-marine-corps-successfully-tests-iron-dome-based-air-defense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Marine Corps carried out a successful test<\/a>\u00a0of the Iron Dome\u2019s Tamir missile at the same range.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Rafael in the early 2000s developed Iron Dome, which uses radar from Israel Aerospace Industries subsidiary Elta Systems. In the U.S., Rafael partners with Raytheon Technologies to produce the system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cFuture variants of the IFPC [Indirect Fire Protection Capability] program include technology insertions such as directed energy,\u201d the recent Israeli statements said. The addition of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/industry\/techwatch\/2022\/02\/16\/israel-plans-laser-wall-but-questions-remain-about-effectiveness-and-cost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">directed-energy \u2014 or laser \u2014 technology<\/a>\u00a0to the Iron Dome system was shown to U.S. President Joe Biden when he visited Israel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Iron Dome has been active for more than a decade with the Israel Defense Forces. It was initially used against short-range rocket threats from the Gaza Strip, but it has since received upgrades to confront numerous types of emerging threats. In May 2021, it was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/unmanned\/2021\/05\/17\/iron-dome-intercepts-drone-during-combat-for-first-time-says-israeli-military\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">publicly revealed to have intercepted a drone<\/a>\u00a0for the first time during combat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Israel Missile Defense Organization, a division of the Defense Ministry\u2019s Directorate of Defense Research and Development, leads the development of Israel\u2019s multitiered air defense systems, including Iron Dome, David\u2019s Sling and Arrow. The U.S. Congress has supported all three systems.
