Si bien en el 2023 est\u00e1 previsto disponer del primer Vector Hipers\u00f3nico en estado operacional, los expertos insisten en la necesidad de desarrollar e impulsar m\u00e1s r\u00e1pidamente, la incorporaci\u00f3n de capacidades de producci\u00f3n, que emplean masivamente AM. Ello permitir\u00e1 disponer de una Base Industrial para la Defensa, s\u00f3lida, flexible y en condiciones de satisfacer la demanda de grandes cantidades, de estos sistemas verdaderamente disruptivos. La experiencia de los recientes conflictos, muestra la necesidad de disponer de una r\u00e1pida respuesta del sistema industrial, para hacer frente a eventuales conflictos armados.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 The Pentagon wants to use an advanced technology process known as additive manufacturing to design and build hypersonic weapon and vehicle systems that can operate in extreme conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">As the U.S. Department of Defense looks to field its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/ausa\/2022\/10\/14\/us-army-plans-two-more-tests-of-hypersonic-missile-ahead-of-fielding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first hypersonic capability in fiscal 2023<\/a>, officials emphasize the need to shore up the industrial base and ensure programs can smoothly transition from development to production. Through an initiative called Growing Additive Manufacturing Maturity for Airbreathing Hypersonics, or GAMMA-H, it\u2019s targeting materials and processes used to build systems that travel and maneuver above Mach 5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">In a request for proposals issued Oct. 28, the department asked companies large and small, as well as academia, to submit prototype proposals for developing hypersonic components using additive manufacturing, which leverages computer-aided design software and often advanced materials to build components.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cWe need to be pushing the envelope with materials produced using the additive manufacturing process,\u201d Kevin DeVries, deputy director of the Office of the Secretary of Defense\u2019s Manufacturing Technology Program, said in a statement. \u201cThe science has proven it\u2019s possible, but the practice is not widespread enough. GAMMA-H will encourage further adoption of groundbreaking technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Because the parts used to build hypersonic systems must operate under extreme conditions, they require advanced specifications and materials that can withstand high temperatures and other mechanical stress. The premise of GAMMA-H is that additive manufacturing techniques could help improve the quality of those parts and reduce the number of components needed to build a vehicle or weapon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Navy is leading the effort in partnership with the Manufacturing Technology program office. Proposals are due Dec. 12, and the department aims to move through the selection process quickly, though it gave no timeline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/air\/2022\/09\/09\/kendall-more-optimistic-on-hypersonic-effort-after-successful-tests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Speaking during the Defense News conference in September<\/a>, Pentagon acquisition executive Bill LaPlante said the department and its industrial base need to focus on addressing these types of manufacturing challenges to prepare for increased production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cYou have very difficult materials issues, thermal management issues, aerodynamics issues,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd so, production is an art.
