SINGAPORE – The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will in early 2023 deploy a pair of its new emergency vehicles that will take its firefighting and rescue capabilities to new heights.<\/p>\n
Reaching up to 90m \u2013 as tall as a 30-storey building \u2013 the high-level articulated fire and rescue vehicle was unveiled during the Fire Safety Asia Conference and Exhibition at the Singapore Expo on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Plans for the two vehicles \u2013 which will be deployed at Kallang Fire Station and Punggol Fire Station \u2013 were revealed at the SCDF\u2019s workplan seminar more than three years ago.<\/p>\n
Firefighters can stand on the aerial platform of the vehicle, which can hold up to 500kg, and be lifted to the necessary height.<\/p>\n
They can fight raging fires with a handheld firefighting nozzle or a built-in water monitor \u2013 capable of discharging 3,800 litres of water a minute \u2013 that draws water from fire hydrants in the vicinity.<\/p>\n
The SCDF\u2019s current aerial firefighting and rescue capabilities range from 34m to 60m.<\/p>\n
The SCDF said the new vehicle, developed in collaboration with the Home Team Science and Technology Agency, will enhance its operational readiness and response to high-rise fires in Singapore\u2019s rapidly changing urban landscape.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis latest addition to our front-line inventory will give SCDF commanders more tactical options in carrying out firefighting and rescue operations at high-rise buildings,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
Assistant Commissioner Michael Chua Szu Chiap, director of the SCDF\u2019s operations department, said: \u201cToday in Singapore, we have more high-rise buildings, or what we call super high-rise buildings. This (vehicle) will allow us to have better reach, to be able to manage buildings of that type.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the Fire Safety Asia Conference and Exhibition, Minister of State for Home Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim viewed the high-level articulated fire and rescue vehicle that was on display at the Singapore Expo carpark, along with the SCDF\u2019s seventh-generation ambulance.<\/p>\n
Prof Faishal, who was guest of honour at the event, said in a speech at the opening that the SCDF has increased technology adoption to enhance the effectiveness of its operational readiness, response and training.<\/p>\n
This is the fourth time that the event, organised by the National Fire and Emergency Preparedness Council and the SCDF, has been held since 2011.<\/p>\n
Over three days, it will feature a workshop on fire safety design, fire safety management and operational response, and speeches by international speakers who will share ideas and best practices on fire safety and the experiences of their countries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
