Lo solicitado son US$ 842.000 Millones, monto que resulta un 3% superior al del a\u00f1o en curso. Las \u00e1reas consideradas prioridad y que ser\u00e1n las m\u00e1s impulsadas, se relacionan con el desarrollo de nuevos Sistemas Aut\u00f3nomos de empleo militar, jets de combate, misiles hipers\u00f3nicos y submarinos, etc. Este presupuesto prioriza las inversiones en sectores cr\u00edticos, que permiten avanzar en la implementaci\u00f3n del Documento Rector para el Sector Defensa de ese pa\u00eds,, la \u201c<em>National Defense Strategy<\/em>\u201d. Las inversiones en Tecnolog\u00edas Cr\u00edticas y el renovado impulso a la Base Industrial de Defensa, se relacionan principalmente con la producci\u00f3n de munici\u00f3n, construcci\u00f3n de submarinos, biomanufacturas y microelectr\u00f3nica, entre otros.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"l-content-row l-relative\">\n<div class=\"content-body wysiwyg l-content-well wysiwyg-article\">\n<p class=\"drop-cap\">The Biden administration is proposing a $842 billion Pentagon budget for 2024 that boosts spending on new drones, combat jets, hypersonic missiles, and submarines.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s up roughly $25 billion\u2014about 3 percent\u2014from the $817 billion appropriated four months ago for the current fiscal year, but the real change will depend on this year\u2019s inflation rate.<\/p>\n<p>The spending plan, announced on Thursday, highlights how Pentagon\u2019s priorities are shifting in response to China\u2019s weapons developments. Pentagon officials are expected to hold briefings about the 2024 spending plan on Monday, when more detailed budget justification documents are sent to Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe budget prioritizes resources for critical investments enabling the [Defense] Department to continue implementation of the National Defense Strategy, including building the right mix of capabilities to defending against current and future threats,\u201d Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to China, which the administration calls the \u201cpacing challenge,\u201d the budget request also takes a number of steps to counter Russia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt outlines crucial investments to out-compete China globally and to continue support for Ukraine in the face of unprovoked Russian aggression,\u201d Biden wrote in his \u201cbudget message\u201d to Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The budget proposal is sure to face resistance from House Republicans who have criticized the record-high defense spending of recent years and the transfer to Ukraine of billions of dollars in American weapons and aid.<\/p>\n<p>But other Republicans were quick to call the proposed increase too small. Rep. Rob Wittman, R-Va., said in a Thursday statement that the Biden administration proposal \u201cdisplayed indifference and weakness toward our national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"l-content-row l-relative\">\n<div class=\"l-content-left-rail\">On the Senate side, Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, called Biden&#8217;s budget \u201cwoefully inadequate and disappointing.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-body wysiwyg l-content-well content-body-last\">\n<p>\u201cIt does not even resource his own National Defense Strategy to protect our country from growing threats around the world,\u201d Wicker said in a Thursday statement. \u201cThis defense budget is a serious indication of President Biden\u2019s failure to prioritize national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic leader\u00a0of the Senate Armed Services Committee took a middle line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome will inevitably say the topline is too much, while others will claim it is not enough,\u201d Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I. said in a statement. \u201cI say America\u2019s defense budget should be guided by our values, needs, and national security strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the past two years, Congress has added tens of billions of dollars to Biden\u2019s defense spending request in response to record-high inflation and support to replenish weapons given to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>If lawmakers continue that trend, \u201cThe result will be the highest military budget since World War II, far higher than at the peaks of the Korean or Vietnam Wars or the height of the Cold War, said William Hartung, senior research fellow at the Progressive Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. \u201cThis enormous sum is far more than is needed to provide an effective defense of the United States and its allies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s budget request \u201cin key technologies and sectors of the U.S. industrial base such as microelectronics, submarine construction, munitions production, and biomanufacturing,\u201d the document states. A fragile U.S. supply chain exacerbated by the pandemic has caused numerous problems for weapons manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he Budget modernizes and expands the production capacity of the industrial base to ensure the Army can meet strategic demands for critical munitions,\u201d the document states.<\/p>\n<p>Munitions factories have been stressed as the U.S. allies need to replenish stocks of weapons given to Ukraine over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he U.S. aerospace and defense industry relies on the administration\u2019s budget request as a roadmap for investments in innovative technology, a resilient supply chain, and a vibrant workforce,\u201d said Eric Fanning, CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association, a trade group that represents large and small defense contractors. \u201cWe need strong investment to meet the Administration\u2019s National Defense Strategy, address inflation, and build up key munitions and production lines \u2014 not only to maintain our own stockpiles but also to support our allies and partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said the budget proposal would call for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defenseone.com\/policy\/2023\/03\/air-force-wants-more-planes-fasterplus-thousand-drone-wingmen\/383687\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">boosting production of warplanes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvesting in this mix of aircraft provides an opportunity to increase the resiliency and flexibility of the fleet to meet future threats, while reducing operating costs,\u201d the document states.<\/p>\n<p>For the Navy, the administration said it is proposing \u201cexecutable and responsible investments\u201d in the fleet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he Budget makes meaningful investments in improving the lethality and survivability of the fleet, particularly improving undersea superiority,\u201d the document says.<\/p>\n<p>The spending plan also calls for increased spending on \u2018the development and testing of hypersonic strike capabilities while enhancing existing long-range strike capabilities to bolster deterrence and improve survivability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It also includes funds for \u201congoing nuclear modernization programs\u201d including new nuclear command, control, and communications networks needed to transmit launch codes between new intercontinental ballistic missiles, stealth bombers, and submarines.<\/p>\n<p>The spending plan includes $9.1 billion for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sgp.fas.org\/crs\/natsec\/IF12303.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pacific Deterrence Initiative<\/a>, efforts being taken to bolster the U.S. infrastructure in response to China.
