La implementaci\u00f3n de capacidades de fabricaci\u00f3n de vectores de artiller\u00eda GMLRS en Australia o el acuerdo entre RAYTHEON (EUA) y RAFAEL (Israel) de la \u201cversi\u00f3n americanizada\u201d del misil Interceptor israel\u00ed TAMIR, son algunos de los primeros avances en este esfuerzo por disponer de l\u00edneas de \u201cCo \u2013 producci\u00f3n\u201d con otros pa\u00edses.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2014The United States is planning to announce a slew of new weapon co-production deals with governments around the globe, according to the Pentagon\u2019s top acquisition official.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got multiple initiatives that are going to be coming out, [that] you\u2019re going to be hearing about in the next few months, probably, including in European countries [and] including things that are going to be produced in this country that were a product from overseas,\u201d\u00a0Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Bill LaPlante, told reporters on Monday during a\u00a0National Defense Industrial Association conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere we\u2019re headed is co-development, co-production, and co-sustainment with our partners,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The war in Ukraine has exposed logistics challenges and munitions shortages, and propelled the push for some countries to explore such co-production deals, especially those wary about the potential for conflict in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/us-taiwan-defense-firms-to-explore-weapons-co-production\/7057885.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indo-Pacific region<\/a>. (DVIDS)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re gonna see announcements about production lines being started up in Europe, you\u2019re gonna see co-production lines being stood up, some of them in the United States, that will be supporting places overseas. We\u2019re putting a whole bunch of those together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>LaPlante did not provide details on which countries may soon be producing US systems or which weapons are being eyed first, though munitions like ones for the GMLRS are likely top contenders.<\/p>\n<p>But as LaPlante noted, it isn\u2019t a one-sided arrangement, and the US may soon be assembling new foreign weapons on its soil. Some such deals, though, are already in place, like a teaming agreement between\u00a0Raytheon and Israel\u2019s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to produce an Americanized version of\u00a0Iron Dome\u2019s\u00a0Tamir interceptors\u00a0here. In late July, the Marines said they had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2023\/07\/during-new-visit-marines-discuss-us-production-of-iron-domes-tamir-missile-in-arkansas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visited a potential production facility<\/a>\u00a0for that munition in Arkansas.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-id-for-TL-inline-1\" class=\"sponsor-inline\"><\/div>\n<p>Writing in an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2023\/03\/taking-defense-sourcing-abroad-how-to-successfully-harness-international-partners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opinion piece<\/a>\u00a0for Breaking Defense in March, Aleksandar Jovovic, a defense analyst at the Oliver Wyman consultancy, noted, \u201cIn the wake of the Ukraine invasion, we are witnessing a groundswell of support for innovation in the defense supply chain \u2014 both domestic, and increasingly, international.
