El programa tiene por objetivo el reemplazo del fusil M4 y la ametralladora M249 en servicio actualmente, ambos en calibre 5.56mm, por el Fusil del soldado individual (XM 7), la ametralladora liviana (XM 250) para el Gpo Tir (Escuadra), un sistema optoelectr\u00f3nico de control de tiro y la incorporaci\u00f3n de la nueva munici\u00f3n calibre 6.8x51mm. Un moderno sistema de armas con el concepto de modularidad, un nuevo calibre con excelentes prestaciones y la asistencia optoelectr\u00f3nica para el tiro, incrementar\u00e1n sustancialmente la letalidad de las peque\u00f1as fracciones. Se prev\u00e9 su incorporaci\u00f3n progresiva a partir del 2024.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Army\u2019s newest rifle and automatic rifle are already\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2023\/09\/22\/this-unit-has-the-m4-and-saw-replacement-and-begins-testing-soon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the hands of soldiers<\/a>\u00a0for testing and will officially field to its first unit in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The service\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2023\/03\/13\/the-army-wants-this-many-new-rifles-machine-guns-by-next-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">delivered\u00a0<\/a>the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2023\/10\/06\/whats-the-firepower-like-for-the-armys-new-rifle-automatic-rifle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Next Generation Squad Weapon<\/a>\u00a0rifle and automatic rifle, known as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2023\/01\/18\/new-name-selected-for-armys-next-generation-squad-weapon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">XM7 and XM250<\/a>, respectively, along with its advanced optic, the XM157 fire control, to a platoon in the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in late September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">That platoon, along with a squad from the 75th Ranger Regiment, conducted user tests over the subsequent months as the Army ramped up for full fielding to a not yet identified unit in the 101st by the second quarter of fiscal year 2024, officials told Army Times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The XM7 will replace the M4 for close combat units such as infantry, scouts, combat engineers and special operations forces. (Army)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Non-close combat forces will continue to carry the M4 and M249 for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The legacy M4 and M249 fire the 5.56mm round while the XM7 and XM250 fire the recently developed 6.8mm cartridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Army began development of the \u201cintermediate caliber\u201d to better defeat enemy body armor and increase both accuracy and lethality at longer ranges. (Sig Sauer)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Multiple XM250 6.8mm rounds drilled holes through cinder blocks and struck a human silhouette target while only a single 5.56mm round managed to damage, but not fully pass through the cinder blocks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cThat\u2019s turning cover into concealment,\u201d Lt. Col. (Vortex)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The fire control allows for computer-aided ballistics, matching the round and weapon with the optic for better accuracy.
