Si bien se reconoce que la temperatura de almacenamiento afecta la vida \u00fatil del propulsante, este estudio destaca la influencia menos conocida del agua. Al agregar cantidades variables de agua a viales sellados de propulsante y someterlos a envejecimiento t\u00e9rmico, los investigadores observaron mayores tasas de consumo de estabilizante, lo que indica una cin\u00e9tica de descomposici\u00f3n m\u00e1s r\u00e1pida y una reducci\u00f3n de la vida \u00fatil de aproximadamente un 35 %. El estudio inform\u00f3 una energ\u00eda de activaci\u00f3n de 133 \u00b1 4 kJ\/mol para el mecanismo de descomposici\u00f3n catalizado por agua, proponiendo un modelo num\u00e9rico que incorpora el agua como variable para mejorar la predicci\u00f3n de la vida \u00fatil del propulsor NC. El texto enfatiza la necesidad de est\u00e1ndares internacionales, como la publicaci\u00f3n 48 de Allied Ordnance (OTAN), para tener en cuenta los efectos de la humedad y adoptar ecuaciones de Arrhenius modificadas para garantizar la seguridad y confiabilidad de las municiones que contienen NC.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"section-title u-h4 u-margin-l-top u-margin-xs-bottom\"><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"abss0002\">\n<p id=\"spara010\">Numerous studies have been conducted on the decomposition mechanisms of cellulose nitrate (NC), a polymer employed in double base (DB) rocket propellants. It is well known that storage temperature affects the lifetime of these energetic formulations. However, less studies have been published on the influence of water. This research examined the role of water on the stabiliser consumption rate during accelerated ageing of a DB rocket propellant, as well as the impact on the shelf life prediction of the energetic formulation. Different volumes of water (0.8, 1.6, 2 and 4 \u00b5l\/g) were added to the propellant in sealed vials, which were then isothermally aged (70, 80, 90, 100 \u00b0C). Analyses of the stabiliser consumption showed a faster decomposition kinetics in presence of water which is indirectly linked to the shortening of the storage life of the NC based propellant by 35 %. For the conditions, an activation energy of 133 \u00b1 4 kJ\/mol was reported for the water catalytic decomposition mechanism. A numerical model that included water as a variable was reported to reduce the uncertainty in the determination of the service life of NC based propellant.
