Las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel (FDI) han comenzado a realizar una serie de test\u00a0operacionales, al m\u00e1s moderno\u00a0de sus Sistemas de Artiller\u00eda Autopropulsado (SPH) a ruedas. Desarrollado por ELBIT Systems y denominado ROEM \/ SIGMA, consiste en un sistema SPH equipado con un ca\u00f1\u00f3n L52 que dispara proyectiles 155mm, normalizados OTAN. Promocionado como el \u00fanico SPH en su tipo completamente automatizado para el disparo, tiene por objetivo reemplazar progresivamente a los SPH M109 que equipan desde hace a\u00f1os a las FDI. Est\u00e1 montado sobre una plataforma a ruedas 10 x 10 de la firma Oshkosh, con importantes mejoras en cuanto a blindaje y protecci\u00f3n anti \u2013 minas e IED para la tripulaci\u00f3n del sistema, que solo requiere tres hombres para su operaci\u00f3n. En 60 seg puede pasar del movimiento al disparo, con una capacidad de fuego de 8 disp \/ min y un alcance de 40km con los proyectiles convencionales. Extraordinarias capacidades para las FDI ,en tiempos en que la artiller\u00eda vuelve a mostrar su enorme relevancia en el campo de batalla.<\/p>\n

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has fielded the Roem\/Sigma self-propelled howitzer following a series of tests.<\/p>\n

Touted as the world\u2019s first fully automatic artillery, the 155mm\/52 caliber Elbit Systems gun is intended to be a replacement for hundreds of M109s in the Israeli Artillery Corps.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe relevance and dominance of artillery fire are evident in warfare,\u201d IDF\u2019s chief artillery officer Brig, Gen. Yair\u00a0Natans<\/b>\u00a0said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have taken yet another significant step towards integrating the \u2018Roem\u2019 into the diverse firepower capabilities wielded by corps commanders to assist maneuvering forces \u2014 close and lethal support that eliminates many enemies and protects soldiers in various arenas,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe \u2018Roem\u2019 is part of the reinforcement processes of all ground artillery systems, including rockets, missiles, and remotely piloted aircraft.\u201d<\/p>\n

More Advanced, Mobile<\/b><\/p>\n

The wheeled system is more mobile than the tracked M109, with a greater firing range of up to 40 kilometers (25 miles).<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0The Judean<\/i>, the gun\u2019s European\u00a0variant<\/a>\u00a0will have an even greater firing range of up to 80 kilometers (50 miles).<\/p>\n

It features a modified Oshkosh 10\u00d710 military truck chassis, including an armored cabin at the front for blast and mine protection.<\/p>\n

Additional Features<\/b><\/p>\n

The howitzer can transition from travel to fire mode in 60 seconds, and has a firing rate of eight rounds per minute.<\/p>\n

The Roem is manned by a crew of three and is capable of \u201cautomatic loading and laying of the gun system, rapid in-and-out action times and high rate of fire,\u201d\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to Elbit.<\/p>\n

Additionally, it can\u00a0reportedly<\/a>\u00a0fire multiple shells sequentially at different trajectories for a salvo effect on a target.
