Pero que adem\u00e1s, puedan operar en entornos \u201cinterrumpidos, desconectados, intermitentes y de bajo ancho de banda\u201d (DDIL &#8211;\u00a0<em>Denied, Disrupted, Intermittent, and Limited Impact)<\/em>, es lo que establece la reciente convocatoria de la Unidad de Innovaci\u00f3n para la Defensa. Adem\u00e1s de ser compatibles con DDIL, los UAS deben ser capaces de operar en entornos \u201csin GPS\u201d (GPS denied), transportar una carga \u00fatil de 10 kg (Idealmente m\u00e1s de 25 kg) y tener un alcance de m\u00e1s 50 km (Idealmente 300 km).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 The Department of Defense is turning to industry for low-cost, one-way long-range unmanned aerial systems that can operate in \u201cdisrupted, disconnected, intermittent, low-bandwidth\u201d (DDIL) environments, according to a recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.diu.mil\/work-with-us\/open-solicitations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Defense Innovation Unit solicitation.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The solicitation stated that such inexpensive drones have had an \u201casymmetric impact\u201d in modern battlefield settings, presumably in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/tag\/ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0ongoing fight against Russia and the escalating tensions in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/tag\/middle-east\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Middle East<\/a>.\u00a0The US also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2024\/06\/us-approves-sale-of-hundreds-of-one-way-attack-drone-to-taiwan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">approved the sale<\/a>\u00a0of hundreds of similar air vehicles to Taiwan earlier this year<\/p>\n<p>In addition to being DDIL compatible, the drones must also be able to operate in Global Navigation Satellite System denied environments, carry a payload of at least 10 kilograms (though ideally over 25 kg), and be able to travel over 50 kilometers, but ideally 300 km.<\/p>\n<p>The number of drones the Pentagon is looking to purchase is not predetermined, and there is no cap on how much the department will spend on this initiative, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/tag\/defense-innovation-unit-diu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DIU<\/a>\u00a0spokesperson told Breaking Defense.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no set number of platforms, and we want to focus not on delivering bespoke hardware, but rather on relevant capabilities at the right cost per effect, that with a baseline hardware capability can execute rapid and timely software updates to remain combat effective on a rapidly changing Electronic Warfare battlespace,\u201d the spokesperson said in an email.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have no cap on the number of vendors involved, but it will be bounded by capabilities offered and fiscal limitations. It is possible that multiple commercial partners will team on a single contract award as well,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>The department intends to \u201cmove aggressively\u201d during the compete process,\u00a0with the goal of having signed contracts with the chosen companies by mid-January, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom there, we plan to complete all contract items by the end of May, 2025,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Pentagon is looking for drones that can incorporate third-party software and hardware systems in a \u201cmodular, warm-swappable manner,\u201d the solicitation stated.
