En el marco del desarrollo Sistemas de Armas Hipers\u00f3nicas en las FFAA de EEUU, el US Army y la US Navy, llevan adelante un programa conjunto del misil, denominado Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) por el ARMY y Intermediate Range Conventional Propmpt Strike (IRCPS) por la Navy. Por problemas no especificados en su sistema de lanzador terrestre, el citado programa hab\u00eda sufrido reiterados retrasos en los \u00faltimos 2 a\u00f1os. Sin embargo, ambas fuerzas realizaron esta semana el lanzamiento exitoso del misil desde una plataforma terrestre (TEL \u2013 Transport Erector Launcher). Cabe destacar que adem\u00e1s del empleo terrestre, el sistema operar\u00e1 desde las plataformas navales de la Clase Zumwaltt as\u00ed como desde submarinos.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Army has finally test-fired its\u00a0Dark Eagle hypersonic missile<\/a>\u00a0from its trailer-based launcher, something it has been\u00a0attempting to do<\/a>\u00a0for some two years now. The service has explicitly blamed\u00a0problems with the launcher<\/a>\u00a0for causing major testing woes that have pushed back plans to field the weapon system by years.<\/p>\n

The Army\u2019s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO), together with the U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs, conducted the test launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, according to a\u00a0Pentagon press release<\/a>\u00a0this evening. The missile at the core of Dark Eagle, also known as the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), is the same one the Navy plans to arm its\u00a0Zumwalt<\/em>\u00a0class stealth destroyers<\/a>\u00a0and future\u00a0Block V\u00a0Virginia\u00a0<\/em>class submarines<\/a>\u00a0with. The two services have been working together to develop their respective systems. \u201cThis is the second successful end-to-end flight test of the [common] All Up Round (AUR) [missile] this year and was the first live-fire event for the Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon system using a Battery Operations Center and a Transporter Erector Launcher,\u201d according to the Pentagon release, which does not explicitly say when the test occurred.<\/p>\n

However, spotters were able to use publicly available warning notices, flight tracking data, and NASA camera feeds from Cape Canaveral to catch the launch occurring earlier today. Online flight tracking shows that one of\u00a0NASA\u2019s WB-57F aircraft<\/a>, a Navy\u00a0NP-3D range support plane<\/a>, and two specially modified\u00a0High Altitude Observatory<\/a>\u00a0(HALO) Gulfstream business jets operated by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) were airborne at the time. All of these aircraft regularly make\u00a0appearances during hypersonic<\/a>\u00a0and other missile testing, among other research and development and test and evaluation activities.<\/p>\n
