Por problemas no especificados en su sistema de lanzador terrestre, el citado programa hab\u00eda sufrido reiterados retrasos en los \u00faltimos 2 a\u00f1os. Sin embargo, ambas fuerzas realizaron esta semana el lanzamiento exitoso del misil desde una plataforma terrestre (TEL \u2013 Transport Erector Launcher). Cabe destacar que adem\u00e1s del empleo terrestre, el sistema operar\u00e1 desde las plataformas navales de la Clase Zumwaltt as\u00ed como desde submarinos.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The U.S. Army has finally test-fired its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/40584\/the-army-has-finally-revealed-the-range-its-new-hypersonic-weapon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dark Eagle hypersonic missile<\/a>\u00a0from its trailer-based launcher, something it has been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/land\/hypersonic-weapon-just-tested-in-florida-results-unclear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">attempting to do<\/a>\u00a0for some two years now. The service has explicitly blamed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/launcher-woes-causing-dark-eagle-hypersonic-missile-test-aborts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">problems with the launcher<\/a>\u00a0for causing major testing woes that have pushed back plans to field the weapon system by years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The Army\u2019s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO), together with the U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs, conducted the test launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Releases\/Release\/Article\/3999835\/army-and-navy-successfully-test-conventional-hypersonic-missile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pentagon press release<\/a>\u00a0this evening. The missile at the core of Dark Eagle, also known as the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), is the same one the Navy plans to arm its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/sea\/uss-zumwalt-returns-to-the-water-with-a-hypersonic-missile-launcher-upgrade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Zumwalt<\/em>\u00a0class stealth destroyers<\/a>\u00a0and future\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/seabed-espionage-variant-of-virginia-class-submarine-in-development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Block V\u00a0<em>Virginia\u00a0<\/em>class submarines<\/a>\u00a0with. The two services have been working together to develop their respective systems. All of these aircraft regularly make\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/air\/unprecedented-u-s-hypersonic-weapon-test-in-west-pacific-appears-imminent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer this capability in the hands of the warfighter,\u201d Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth said in a statement about the test.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cThis test marks an important milestone in the development of one of our most advanced weapons systems. As we approach the first delivery of this capability to our Army partners, we will continue to press forward to integrate Conventional Prompt Strike into our Navy surface and subsurface ships to help ensure we remain the world\u2019s preeminent fighting force,\u201d Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cThis test is a demonstration of the successful Navy and Army partnership that has allowed us to develop a transformational hypersonic weapon system that will deliver unmatched capability to meet joint warfighting needs,\u201d Navy Vice Adm. Johnny R. Wolfe Jr, director of the Navy\u2019s Strategic Systems Programs that is leading work on the common AUR, added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The common missile, or All Up Round (AUR), being developed for Dark Eagle and IRCPS consists of two main components, a two-stage rocket booster with an unpowered hypersonic boost-glide vehicle on top. As designed, the missile gets the conical \u2018vehicle\u2019 to an optimal speed and altitude before releasing it, after which it glides down to its target at hypersonic speeds, defined as anything above Mach 5, and along a relatively shallow, atmospheric flight path, maneuvering erratically along the way. GAO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cHypersonic systems \u2026 provide a combination of speed, maneuverability, and altitude that enables highly survivable, medium and intermediate-range, rapid defeat of time-critical, heavily-defended targets,\u201d a U.S. defense official told\u00a0<em>The War Zone<\/em>\u00a0after another test event earlier this year. \u201cThe services common hypersonic AUR supports the National Defense Strategy and will provide combatant commanders with diverse capabilities to sustain and strengthen integrated deterrence and to build enduring advantages for the Joint Force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">While firing a missile from the Dark Eagle launcher is a major milestone, the fact that it has only come now underscores the problems that have been dogging the system\u2019s development for years. The Army\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/launcher-woes-causing-dark-eagle-hypersonic-missile-test-aborts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scrubbed three planned launches last year<\/a>. DOD<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cThe U.S. Army and Navy recently initiated a test of a conventional hypersonic system at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida,\u201d a U.S. defense official\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/land\/hypersonic-weapon-just-tested-in-florida-results-unclear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told\u00a0<em>The War Zone<\/em>\u00a0in a statement<\/a>\u00a0in July, but offered no further details at the time. Thanks to today\u2019s Pentagon press release, which says the test involving the Dark Eagle launcher was the \u201csecond successful end-to-end flight test of the All Up Round (AUR) this year,\u201d we now at least know whatever happened in July did not involve an end-to-end demonstration of the common Dark Eagle\/IRCPS missile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">As noted, the Army has blamed past Dark Eagle testing woes on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/launcher-woes-causing-dark-eagle-hypersonic-missile-test-aborts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unspecified issues with the launcher<\/a>\u00a0rather than the missile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">When Dark Eagle might actually enter service is still an open question. \u201cBased on current test and missile production plans, the Army will not field its first complete LRHW battery until fiscal year 2025,\u201d the Government Accountability Office, a Congressional watchdog, said in a report released in June. Fiscal Year 2025 began on Oct. 1, 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">The Army had previously hoped to have a prototype battery start live-fire testing of Dark Eagle in Fiscal Year 2022 and field, at least on a limited level, in Fiscal Year 2023. There is still\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/air\/arrw-hypersonic-missile-program-gets-new-funding-despite-signs-of-cancellation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">some uncertainty surrounding ARRW<\/a>\u00a0status and there\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/air\/signs-arrw-hypersonic-missile-follow-on-may-be-in-the-works\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">may be plans for a follow-on effort<\/a>, if it hasn\u2019t already begun in the classified realm. The U.S. military as a whole has and continues to stress the importance of developing and fielding hypersonic boost-glide vehicle weapons, as well as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/air\/australian-f-a-18f-super-hornets-to-test-launch-u-s-air-forces-hypersonic-cruise-missiles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">air-breathing hypersonic cruise missiles<\/a>, to ensure its ability to successfully prosecute various targets set on land and at sea going forward. These capabilities are seen as especially critical for success in a potential future high-end fight in the Pacific against China.
