TLS BCT es un sistema de radio configurable que puede estudiar frecuencias de radio, recopilar se\u00f1ales, realizar operaciones de b\u00fasqueda de direcci\u00f3n, detectar ataques electromagn\u00e9ticos y visualizar datos del espectro electromagn\u00e9tico (EMS).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. \u2013 A handful of operational U.S. Army brigades now have a tool to \u201csee\u201d how they and enemy forces look in the otherwise invisible electromagnetic spectrum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/peoiews.army.mil\/pm-ewc\/#manpack-toggle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Terrestrial Layer System-Brigade Combat Team Manpack<\/a>, or TLS BCT, is being fielded to the service\u2019s three\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/land\/2024\/10\/15\/this-hawaii-brigade-is-putting-transformation-in-contact-to-the-test\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cTransformation in Contact\u201d<\/a>\u00a0brigades. The Army selected the brigades to receive new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/smr\/sofic\/2022\/05\/18\/special-operators-need-counter-drone-counter-ied-tech-in-a-smaller-package\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">commercial equipment<\/a>, expert training and a series of experiments while preparing for operational deployments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">But soldiers shouldn\u2019t worry \u2014 every brigade will receive the TLS BCT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cThe system is going to be deployed to every brigade combat unit in the Army,\u201d said Ken Strayer, program manager for Electronic Warfare and Cyber in an Army\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/peoiews.army.mil\/2024\/12\/11\/278232\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Officials intend to field the TLS BCT Manpack to up to two brigade combat teams a month over the next three years, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/peoiews.army.mil\/2024\/12\/11\/278232\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">TLS BCT is a configurable radio system that can survey radio frequencies, collect signals, perform direction-finding operations, detect electromagnetic attacks and visualize electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Army awarded a nearly $100 million contract to Mastodon Design, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caci.com\/ew-ecm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CACI subsidiary<\/a>, to build, field and train soldiers on the system in July, according to an Army\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/peoiews.army.mil\/2024\/07\/01\/277177\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Brig. Gen. Ed Barker, head of Program Executive Office-Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors, laid out some ways in which commanders might use electronic warfare equipment on a panel at the annual Association of Old Crows Annual Symposium in National Harbor, Maryland, on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cTo help that commander see what they look like within the [electromagnetic spectrum],\u201d Barker said. \u201cWhat do they need to control?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Barker also discussed the suite of electronic warfare capabilities in his PEO portfolio, including the recently fielded TLS BCT and the future TLS Echelons Above Brigade, or TLS EAB, under development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The systems will allow soldiers to conduct both signals intelligence and electronic detection and attack in one package.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s providing them the ability to understand and affect in the [electromagnetic spectrum] environment,\u201d Barker said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">In an Army release, Col. Leslie Gorman, Army Capability Manager \u2014 Electronic Warfare director, described the TLS BCT as a smaller and lighter version of a similar device first used by Army special operations forces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The three \u201cTransformation in Contact\u201d brigades now putting TLS BCT through its paces are the 2nd Light Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii; the 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York; and the 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Traditionally, the military often withdraws units from operations to field, test and implement new equipment and tactics. The \u201cTransformation in Contact\u201d approach seeks to continuously improve equipment fielding and adoption as the modern battlefield rapidly transforms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The 101st Brigade conducted their rotation at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Johnson, in late August. In October, the Hawaii brigade did its Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center at home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The 10th Mountain brigade is slated for an overseas rotation next year in which its members will use the TLS BCT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Two of the brigades already have the gear, according to the release, with the third to receive it soon. Officials did not specify which brigades had the equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">All three will provide feedback from experiences \u201cin the box\u201d at the combat training center rotations and on real-world deployments back to the developers.
