De esta manera, Mosc\u00fa muestra c\u00f3mo sigue trabajando en incrementar las capacidades de su flota de submarinos, para hacer frente a los futuros conflictos que se avizoran en las pr\u00f3ximas d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>ARussian nuclear-powered submarine has fired a Kalibr cruise missile across a distance of nearly 700 miles during a military exercise in the Pacific Ocean, the country&#8217;s Defense Ministry announced.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Krasnoyarsk<\/em>\u2014designed to carry Russia&#8217;s most advanced cruise missiles and torpedoes\u2014launched the strike against a &#8220;coastal target&#8221; as part of the scheduled drills, according to an official statement.<\/p>\n<p><em>Newsweek<\/em>\u00a0reached out to the Kremlin for comment by email on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why It Matters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The activities of Russia&#8217;s navy have drawn increased attention throughout President\u00a0<a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/vladimir-putin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-sys=\"1\">Vladimir Putin<\/a>&#8216;s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which was launched in February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Moscow has been working to improve its submarine fleet since the collapse of the Soviet Union, and Putin has said that the country would be building more nuclear-powered submarines, &#8220;which will ensure Russia&#8217;s security for decades to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What To Know<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Moscow said that the\u00a0<em>Krasnoyarsk<\/em>, which officially joined the Russian navy in December 2023, struck a target at the Kura test range in northern Kamchatka Krai during routine drills. The missile traveled more than 1,100 kilometers before reaching its target.<\/p>\n<p>In a second phase of the drills, the\u00a0<em>Krasnoyarsk<\/em>\u00a0conducted an underwater mission to search for a simulated enemy submarine and attacked it with a rocket-propelled torpedo. According to data from objective control systems, the warhead successfully struck the mock target.<\/p>\n<p>The department noted that the area was closed to civilian ships and aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Alexei Rakhmanov, the head of Saint Petersburg-based United Shipbuilding Corporation,\u00a0<a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/putin-russia-nuclear-submarines-nato-alarm-1784025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced in February 2023<\/a>\u00a0that the multi-purpose\u00a0<em>Krasnoyarsk<\/em>\u00a0would soon join the Russian navy alongside the the strategic\u00a0<em>Imperator Alexander III.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Krasnoyarsk\u00a0<\/em>had been undergoing sea trials since November 2022, and is\u00a0<a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/russia-navy-submarines-ships-nuclear-nato-ukraine-2009992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">part of Russia&#8217;s 885\/885M nuclear-powered submarines<\/a> which also include the <em>Severodvinsk<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Kazan<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Novosibirsk.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Russia also recently launched Project 23550 ice-class patrol ship\u00a0<em>Nikolay Zubov,\u00a0<\/em>while the Project 885M (Yasen-M) nuclear-powered missile submarine called\u00a0<a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/russia-touts-growing-nuclear-submarine-fleet-amid-tensions-nato-2004646\"><em>Arkhangelsk<\/em>\u00a0went into service<\/a>\u00a0with the Northern Fleet in December.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Russia deployed its\u00a0<a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/russia-submarine-nuclear-cuba-havana-kazan-damage-hull-1914065\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nuclear-powered submarine\u00a0<em>Kazan<\/em><\/a>, warships, and other naval vessels\u00a0<a class=\"multivariate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/russia-warships-caribbean-sea-naval-drills-1909398\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to the Caribbean Sea<\/a>\u00a0for planned military drills.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What People Are Saying<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Russia&#8217;s Defense Ministry\u00a0<\/strong>said in a statement on Monday: &#8220;The Pacific Fleet&#8217;s Krasnoyarsk nuclear submarine covertly moved to the assigned area in the Pacific Ocean to launch a Kalibr cruise missile at a coastal target.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The cruise missile successfully hit the coastal target at the Kura test range on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
