El arma es guiada y puede impactar la superficie sobre su objetivo con gran precisi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The U.S. Air Force quietly fixed a problem with the integration of the 30,000-pound class\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/our-best-look-yet-at-the-massive-ordnance-penetrator-bunker-buster-bomb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GBU-57\/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator<\/a>\u00a0(MOP) bomb onto\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/28076\/new-video-of-b-2-bomber-dropping-mother-of-all-bunker-busters-sends-ominous-message\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber<\/a>\u00a0last year. This is especially significant given that the B-2 is the only aircraft currently certified to operationally employ the MOP, a huge precision bunker buster specially designed to penetrate very deeply buried and fortified targets. As part of the integration work, the service also conducted an important test of a new \u201csmart fuze\u201d for the MOP to help improve the weapon\u2019s effectiveness, even when the exact depth and positioning of the buried target are not definitively known.<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon\u2019s Office of the Director of Test and Evaluation (DOT&amp;E) included an update on developments regarding MOP in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dote.osd.mil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">its most recent annual report<\/a>, which covers work on various programs conducted during Fiscal Year 2024. The exact size of the current MOP stockpile is unknown, but it is understood to be relatively small. As of 2015, prime contractor Boeing had delivered at least 20 of the bombs,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/About-Us\/Fact-Sheets\/Display\/Article\/104614\/massive-ordnance-penetrator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to the Air Force<\/a>. USAF<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cThe Air Force established the LPSF Quick Reaction Capability program in August 2018 to respond to a validated urgent operational need, to integrate and qualify a smart fuze capability into the MOP that had been previously fielded as the Enhanced Threat Response [ETV] weapon modifications,\u201d the report adds. \u201cThis upgrade, known as MOP Modification, provides the capability to hold at risk additional high-value HDBTs [hard and deeply buried targets] with limited threat intelligence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">When it comes to bunker bombs, especially when employed against subterranean targets, effectiveness is not just about hitting the right mark, but also about detonating at the most optimal moment after burrowing down into the ground. Available intelligence about the target\u2019s exact depth and general layout underground may be limited, as well. DOD via GlobalSecurity.org<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>What specific capabilities LPSF offers are unknown, but the U.S. military\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dodig.mil\/reports.html\/Article\/1118960\/acquisition-of-the-air-force-hard-target-void-sensing-fuze-program-redacted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has publicly invested significant resources<\/a>\u00a0in the development of advanced void-sensing fuzes for smaller 2,000 and 5,000-pound class bunker buster bombs. A void-sensing fuze is designed to trigger when it detects a sufficiently large open space, such as a room in an underground facility. While significantly delayed, the program was able to execute testing at the end of FY23 and in FY24,\u201d the report continues. \u201cDespite the delays in test execution and reductions in subscale testing, the program is proceeding with key performance milestones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">\u201cSubscale lethality testing was reduced in scope (by approximately 50 percent) due to funding redirection from the Air Force and test execution cost growth within DTRA. America\u2019s near-peer competitors China and Russia continue to build new hardened and\/or underground facilities, including bases with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/bi-chinese-underground-air-bases-2012-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deep caverns for aircraft<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/35837\/image-shows-chinese-submarine-entering-mysterious-cave-facility-at-south-china-sea-base\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">submarines<\/a>, which would be important in the event that a high-end conflict erupts. A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/iranian-underground-nuclear-facility-may-be-a-hard-target-for-americas-biggest-bunker-busters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report from\u00a0<em>The Associated Press<\/em>\u00a0in 2023<\/a>\u00a0notably highlighted concerns that new underground additions to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nti.org\/education-center\/facilities\/natanz-enrichment-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Iran\u2019s Natanz nuclear site<\/a>\u00a0could be out of the reach of MOP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph skip\">Last year, Israeli forces also conducted a dramatic commando raid that destroyed an underground missile production facility in Syria that had been built with Iranian assistance, which you can read about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/air\/inside-israels-commando-raid-on-irans-underground-missile-factory-in-syria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. That operation underscored the challenges of neutralizing these kinds of deeply buried and hardened sites and signaled,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/news-features\/israeli-commando-raid-in-syria-sends-a-message-to-iran-that-its-on-underground-bases-are-not-untouchable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">especially to Iran, Israel\u2019s willingness and ability<\/a>\u00a0to take such steps to do so.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"100 Shaldag soldiers raid and dismantle Syrian missile factory in secret operation\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UWy1WWvTGPw\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>MOP, in combination with the stealth B-2, also gives the U.S. military a unique option for prosecuting deeply buried and hardened targets located in very heavily defended areas. The forthcoming\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twz.com\/air\/b-21-raider-numbers-could-be-boosted-with-existing-production-capacity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">B-21 Raider stealth bomber<\/a>\u00a0will offer even more capability in this regard.
