The Australian Army has successfully test-fired its Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) for the first time at the Mount Bundey Training Area during\u00a0Exercise Talisman Sabre<\/a>, involving the US and several other countries.<\/p>\n The army\u2019s\u00a0High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS)<\/a>\u00a0launched the missile, which struck its target over 300 kilometers (186 miles) away within four minutes and three seconds.<\/p>\n The test occurred \u201ctwo years ahead of schedule and followed the delivery of the first PrSM a year ahead of schedule, as well as the first HIMARS two months ahead of schedule,\u201d\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to the defense ministry\u2019s press release.<\/p>\n \u201cThis successful launch is a significant milestone in the Government\u2019s plan to deliver a twenty-five-fold increase to Army\u2019s long-range strike capability,\u201d Minister for Defence Industry\u00a0Pat Conroy\u00a0<\/b>stated.<\/p>\n This follows Canberra and Washington\u2019s\u00a0memorandum of understanding signed last month<\/a>\u00a0for the production, sustainment, and follow-on development of the PrSM program, enabling Australian forces to access the latest missile available to the US.<\/p>\n
