El US Army ha venido usando Aerostatos fijos (Anclados)\u00a0 con sensores diversos, en misiones ISR (Intelligence ,Surveillance , Reconnaissance) con excelentes resultados, en apoyo a las fuerzas de la coalici\u00f3n en Iraq y Afganistan. Este tipo de sistemas es adem\u00e1s una de las herramientas ISR m\u00e1s empleadas actualmente para la detecci\u00f3n temprana de amenazas del tipo IED (Improvised Explosive Device) ocultas a lo largo de carreteras.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"intro\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"highslide-image alignright\" title=\"Click to close image, click and drag to move. Use arrow keys for next and previous.\" src=\"http:\/\/media.defenceindustrydaily.com\/images\/AIR_LTA_PTDS_Aerostat_lg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"391\" height=\"189\" \/>The US Army is using tethered aerostats with multi-mission sensors to provide long endurance intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR) and communications in support of coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>The aerostat-based Persistent Threat Detection System (PTDS) is one of the ISR tools the Army uses to detect improvised explosive devices (IEDs) buried along roadsides\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rectangleright\">\n<div class=\"adbug print-no\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>An aerostat is a lighter-than-air craft that relies on a ground tether for movement and often for power as well, as opposed to blimps which are self-powered, free-flying craft. DID has more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defenseindustrydaily.com\/?s=aerostats\">coverage<\/a> of military applications of aerostats.<\/p>\n<p>The aerostat for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lockheedmartin.com\/data\/assets\/ms2\/pdf\/AerostatSystems.pdf\">PTDS<\/a> <img src=\"http:\/\/www.defenseindustrydaily.com\/images\/icons\/ui\/external.png\" alt=\"external link\" \/> [PDF] is smaller than the aerostat used in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defenseindustrydaily.com\/Time-for-TARS-Along-USAs-Southern-Borders-04973\/\">Tethered Aerostat Radar System<\/a> (TARS), which provides surveillance along the US-Mexican border.
