Un acuerdo entre\u00a0los gobiernos de\u00a0Ucrania y RUGB permitir\u00e1 a \u00e9ste \u00faltimo pa\u00eds, la fabricaci\u00f3n masiva en su territorio, de los drones interceptores \u201cOCTOPUS\u201d desarrollados por empresas ucranianas. De esta manera, Ucrania comienza un proceso de transici\u00f3n y exportaci\u00f3n de sus capacidades, permitiendo a pa\u00edses aliados como RUGB, fabricar bajo licencia ucraniana diversos sistemas de armas. Los interceptores \u201cOCTOPUS\u201d han demostrado gran eficiencia y una excelente relaci\u00f3n \u201ccosto \u2013beneficio<\/em>\u201d en la neutralizaci\u00f3n de los UAS Shahed \u2013 136 y otros, lanzados por Rusia como parte de sus ataques masivos. El Secretario de Defensa de RUGB ha expresado que este acuerdo resulta de gran utilidad, no solo para apoyar a Ucrania sino adem\u00e1s, para empezar a conformar la iniciativa europea \u201cDroneWall\u201d, destinada a incorporar capacidades de producci\u00f3n masiva de medios aptos y a vez econ\u00f3micos, para a enfrentar futuros ataques de drones rusos a otros pa\u00edses de la regi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

MILAN \u2014 Mass production of Ukrainian interceptor drones in the United Kingdom is gearing up, as the war-torn country transitions to licensed production of domestically designed weapons in partner countries.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press conference on Oct. 20, British Secretary of State for Defense John Healey\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0the joint manufacturing project, dubbed Octopus, would begin \u201cwithin weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The announcement comes a few days after Ukraine\u2019s government-backed defense technology group Brave1\u00a0identified a handful of weapon categories<\/a>\u00a0deemed fit for export to Western allies. Over the last few months, Kyiv has explored the possibility of easing its arms transfer ban.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In July, leaders launched a new initiative to authorize allied countries, such as members of the Ramstein group of global backers, to produce Ukrainian systems locally. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that this process will be gradual and will only entail a partial and regulated lift of restrictions limited to weapons in surplus.<\/p>\n

According to Healey, the Octopus interceptor, a proven system against Shahed-type attack drones, will become the foundation of the so-called European \u201cdrone wall\u201d to deter further Russian aerial threats.<\/p>\n

This joint partnership could result in the production rate of around 2,000 units per month, Bloomberg reported on Oct. 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough Project Octopus, our Ukrainian friends will share the technology and intellectual property with the UK \u2013in turn, we\u2019ll develop this further and mass-produce it to supply thousands of interceptor drones back to Ukraine monthly,\u201d Healey\u00a0explained<\/a>\u00a0earlier.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In September, the privately-owned Ukrainian drone manufacturer Ukrspecsystems announced that it was investing over $267 million in the building of a new factory in Mildenhall, U.K.<\/p>\n

The interceptor in question was developed in Ukraine with the support of UK technicians and staff, but reportedly costs less than 10% of the systems it was conceived to target.<\/p>\n

Britain is doubling down on its drone capabilities, as Healey also announced the creation of a new U.K. Drone Centre, adding that investments in drone and other autonomous systems would double to total more than \u00a34 billion ($5 billion). The country has committed to spending 10% of its equipment budget on new technologies, starting this year.<\/p>\n
