At the tactical level, drones will conduct reconnaissance and target identification, draw enemy air defenses to waste missiles, and support joint anti-landing and coastal defense missions.<\/p>\n
In combat, the systems are expected to extend the range of existing weapons, speed up target acquisition, and help sustain operations during prolonged engagements.<\/p>\n
These efforts reflect Taipei\u2019s broader push to strengthen its drone capabilities amid rising security concerns. In August 2023, a Taiwanese Marine Corps official urged the armed forces to\u00a0revamp their drone defense strategy<\/a>\u00a0to better counter a\u00a0potential Chinese invasion<\/a>.<\/p>\n It also comes amid Taiwanese President\u00a0Lai Ching-te<\/strong>\u2019s vow to accelerate the\u00a0construction of its T-Dome multi-layered air defense system<\/a>, as well as the issuance of new\u00a0counter-drone guidelines for soldiers<\/a>.<\/p>\n The defense ministry is set to give a special briefing about its drone strategy to the Legislative Yuan\u2019s Foreign and National Defense Committee this Thursday.<\/p>\n Doubling Down on Drone Defense<\/strong><\/p>\n Taiwan is rushing to stay ahead of\u00a0threats to its national security<\/a>\u00a0by equipping its soldiers with drone proficiency.<\/p>\n The island nation revealed plans in May to\u00a0create its first-ever army drone units<\/a>\u00a0later in 2025.
