Un curioso buque chino al que algunos expertos han llamado \u201cPorta \u2013 drones<\/em>\u201d, se encuentra en servicio en la armada de ese pa\u00eds, realizando pruebas en alta mar del helic\u00f3ptero no tripulado (UAS) AR-500 J y otros sistemas UAS. El citado buque forma parte de una serie de dise\u00f1os novedosos de los astilleros de ese pa\u00eds, de plataformas navales con cubiertas de vuelo totalmente abiertas, que desde hace a\u00f1os se han comenzado a observar. La posibilidad de un futuro enfrentamiento militar en la regi\u00f3n Indo \u2013 Pac\u00edfico, en los que los sistemas aut\u00f3nomos jueguen un papel cr\u00edtico, fundamenta la variedad de programa relacionados con drones que lleva adelante China, con el objetivo de extender cada vez m\u00e1s sus posibilidades de incorporarse masivamente al \u00e1mbito naval.<\/p>\n

The vessel is one of a number of\u00a0unusual designs with open flight decks<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0have emerged<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0China in recent years<\/a>\u00a0as China\u2019s drone ambitions have increasingly extended into the naval domain.<\/p>\n

China\u2019s state-run television station CCTV-7, which focuses on news related to the People\u2019s Liberation Army (PLA),\u00a0broadcast clips<\/a>\u00a0of the AR-500CJ being tested at sea back on October 30. The AR-500CJ, a version of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China\u2019s (AVIC)\u00a0larger AR-500 family<\/a>\u00a0optimized\u00a0for shipboard operations<\/a>, first\u00a0flew in 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The CCTV-7 segment does not appear to name the ship the AR-500CJ is seen operating from, nor does it offer a full view of the vessel. However, the size and configuration of the flight deck, especially a trapezoidal section on the starboard side toward the stern, as well as its markings, match up directly with the design of a ship that was launched at the Jiangsu Dayang Marine shipyard back in 2022.\u00a0Naval News<\/em>\u00a0was first to report in detail<\/a>\u00a0on that vessel, which is approximately 328 feet (100 meters) long and some 82 feet (25 meters) across, and has a small island on the starboard side toward the bow, last year.<\/p>\n

It had been suggested that the ship seen in the CCTV-7 footage might be a mysterious\u00a0Chinese vessel with a large open flight deck<\/a>\u00a0and three superstructures that\u00a0TWZ<\/em>\u00a0was first to report on<\/a>\u00a0last year. That ship bears the logo of the state-run China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and may be named the\u00a0Zhong Chuan Zi Hao<\/em>, and could also be a first-of-its-kind ostensibly civilian research ship, as you can read more about\u00a0here<\/a>. However, the CSSC \u2018carrier\u2019 has a much larger and differently shaped flight deck that also has very distinct markings on it.<\/p>\n
