Este sistema de artiller\u00eda capaz de disparar proyectiles a velocidades superiores a Mach 6 utilizando solo energ\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica, se presenta como una soluci\u00f3n muy adecuada para hacer frente a la amenaza creciente de drones y misiles. El renovado inter\u00e9s por la tecnolog\u00eda, coincide con el proyecto de un nuevo tipo de grandes buques de combate, en los que estas armas podr\u00edan ser finalmente integradas. Aunque contin\u00faan existiendo desaf\u00edos tecnol\u00f3gicos como el desgaste del ca\u00f1\u00f3n y otros, la reactivaci\u00f3n del \u201cRailgun\u201d muestra un retorno al concepto de armas cin\u00e9ticas de alta velocidad. Actualmente, el sistema sirve tambi\u00e9n como plataforma de investigaci\u00f3n para el desarrollo de materiales y sensores en el \u00e1mbito de las armas hipers\u00f3nicas.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The US Navy appears to have revived electromagnetic railgun testing after shelving related efforts in 2021, based on the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) 2025 Year in Review.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/d34w7g4gy10iej.cloudfront.net\/pubs\/pdf_76259.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>\u00a0published by NAVSEA earlier this year briefly mentioned how the Naval Surface Warfare Center\u2019s (NSWC) White Sands Detachment (WSD) conducted railgun testing and data-gathering \u201cabout high-velocity firing\u201c at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>It was a three-day campaign noted to have occurred in February 2025 as a joint effort between the WSD and the NSWC Dahlgren Division in Virginia for NAVSEA\u2019s Joint Hypersonics Transition Office.<\/p>\n<p>However, the objectives and findings of the testing were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Its occurrence raises further questions, as the US Navy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2021\/07\/08\/us-navy-railgun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">canceled railgun research and development efforts<\/a>\u00a0in 2021, citing fiscal constraints, technical hurdles, and shifting priorities to hypersonic missile development.<\/p>\n<p>There has been no public information that any sort of testing has taken place after the program was put on hold, up until February 2025.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18481\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18481\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18481\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/US-Navy-railgun-testing-.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/US-Navy-railgun-testing-.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/US-Navy-railgun-testing--300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/US-Navy-railgun-testing--1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/US-Navy-railgun-testing--768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18481\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">US Navy railgun testing at White Sands Missile Range.
