During the 10-day mission, NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen captured thousands of snapshots. NASA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"\" data-block=\"sciam\/paragraph\">Since the crew\u2014and their full memory cards\u2014have landed, NASA staff have been busy. \u201cThere\u2019s a Herculean effort that goes on at the Johnson Space Center with the teams that actually have to take all these data and get them into the mission data infrastructure that allows us to process them and get them out,\u201d said Kelsey Young, a planetary scientist at NASA\u2019s Goddard Space Flight Center and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/what-will-nasas-artemis-ii-astronauts-see-on-the-moon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lunar science lead for the\u00a0<i>Artemis II<\/i>\u00a0mission<\/a>\u00a0at the agency\u2019s Science Mission Directorate, to\u00a0<i>Scientific American<\/i>\u00a0last month. \u201cThe amount of data that they are now wrangling to try to get into the system is huge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-block=\"sciam\/paragraph\">The public\u2019s first glimpse at that bounty\u2014and the work it takes to organize it\u2014comes via NASA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eol.jsc.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth website<\/a>, which now hosts 12,217 photographs from the mission. The site\u2019s primary search mechanisms have not been updated to include the\u00a0<i>Artemis II<\/i>\u00a0mission yet, but you can access the complete collection at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eol.jsc.nasa.gov\/SearchPhotos\/ShowQueryResults-TextTable.pl?results=1777903744102201\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this link<\/a>. NASA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Those images\u2019 final destination will be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pds.nasa.gov\/datasearch\/data-search\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASA\u2019s Planetary Data System<\/a>, which houses data from every NASA mission that has been relevant to planetary science. Voice recordings that the\u00a0<i>Artemis II\u00a0<\/i>astronauts made during their flyby of the moon will also eventually be available there, along with a user\u2019s guide compiled by the mission\u2019s science team to help researchers make the most of the information.<\/p>\n<p>The science team, which includes about 60 people, was eagerly poring through mission images when Young talked to\u00a0<i>Scientific American<\/i>.
