La presentaci\u00f3n reuni\u00f3 a tres generaciones consecutivas de veh\u00edculos: el Challenger 1, el 2 actualmente en servicio y el nuevo modelo 3, que representa la modernizaci\u00f3n total de las fuerzas blindadas de RUGB. Este blindado de 66 tn dispone de un ca\u00f1\u00f3n de \u00e1nima lisa de 120 mm que dispara munici\u00f3n est\u00e1ndar de la OTAN, un cambio radical en el arma principal del tanque que mejora significativamente la interoperabilidad y el suministro log\u00edstico con otros pa\u00edses aliados. Cuenta adem\u00e1s con sistemas avanzados de comunicaci\u00f3n t\u00e1ctica, miras mejoradas de \u00faltima generaci\u00f3n, blindaje modular y est\u00e1 equipado con el Sistema de Protecci\u00f3n Activa (APS) \u201cTrophy. El proyecto contempla actualizar un total de 148 unidades mediante una inversi\u00f3n que supera los 800 millones de libras. La fabricaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 a cargo de RBSL, una alianza estrat\u00e9gica entre la brit\u00e1nica BAE Systems y la alemana Rheinmetall.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Challenger 3, the Army&#8217;s next-generation main battle tank, has been revealed to the public for the first time during a demonstration at this year&#8217;s Tankfest.<\/p>\n<p>The MBT made a surprise appearance at The Tank Museum event in Dorset and was presented alongside the in-service Challenger 2 and the original Challenger 1, bringing together three generations in a single display.<\/p>\n<p>Though it is yet to enter service, the 66-tonne armoured powerhouse offered spectators a rare glimpse at the future of the Royal Armoured Corps and demonstrated a step forward in the Army&#8217;s capability.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/players.brightcove.net\/2685123856001\/Hy7Zehglog_default\/index.html?videoId=6399710080112\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>The future of MBTs\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Developed by Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land &#8211; a joint venture between UK-based BAE Systems and Germany-based Rheinmetall &#8211; Challenger 3 is described as the new MBT for the future.<\/p>\n<p>Designed as a 24-hour, all-weather tank, it is fitted with upgraded sights for commanders and gunners, improved tactical communications and enhanced hull protection.<\/p>\n<p>Its primary armament is the Rheinmetall 120mm L55A1 smoothbore cannon, which can fire Nato-standard ammunition and is designed to deliver long-range accuracy and penetration.<\/p>\n<p>It fires the latest kinetic-energy anti-tank rounds and programmable multipurpose ammunition, including advanced APFSDS rounds \u2013 armour-piercing, fin-stabilised, discarding-sabot.<\/p>\n<p>This move brings the British Army into line with other Nato MBTs, increasing interoperability while reducing barrel wear.<\/p>\n<p>The tank also uses new modular armour and active protection systems, including the Trophy Active Protection System.<\/p>\n<p>Built and designed by Rafael Advanced Defence Systems, it acts as a miniature automated shield around the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Using radar, it can detect and intercept incoming missiles and anti-tank projectiles, while automatically firing its own intercepting munitions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18808\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18808\" style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18808\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/21012025-Challenger-3-cvarries-o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/21012025-Challenger-3-cvarries-o.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/21012025-Challenger-3-cvarries-o-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/21012025-Challenger-3-cvarries-o-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/21012025-Challenger-3-cvarries-o-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/21012025-Challenger-3-cvarries-o-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18808\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new main gun brings the British Army into line with other Nato nations whose 120mm tank guns are smoothbore (Picture: Rheinmetall)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>A landmark display\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nik Wyness, director of marketing and engagement at The Tank Museum, said the appearance of Challenger 3 alongside its predecessors marked an important moment in British armoured history.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It brings into sharp focus the evolution of the Army&#8217;s main battle tank, from Cold War legacy to future capability, in a way only this event can,&#8221;
