Los compuestos energ\u00e9ticos avanzados mejoran significativamente el rendimiento de las armas lo que podr\u00eda reducir la cantidad de munici\u00f3n necesaria en combate. Tambi\u00e9n podr\u00edan ayudar a aliviar los cuellos de botella en la producci\u00f3n al incentivar la construcci\u00f3n de nuevas instalaciones de fabricaci\u00f3n. Sin embargo, a pesar de estas ventajas, la mayor\u00eda de las armas a\u00fan dependen de materiales energ\u00e9ticos desarrollados en el siglo pasado. Y si bien est\u00e1 orientado hacia los EE.UU., estas lecciones pueden servir de gu\u00eda para pensar en la selecci\u00f3n de futuras actualizaciones de nuestros sistemas de producci\u00f3n para la defensa.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>With the United States rushing to refill its stocks of critical munitions, expand its munitions industrial base, and field large volumes of new weapons, the energetic materials contained within these munitions are an increasingly crucial part of alleviating one of the nation\u2019s most serious defense shortfalls. By providing greater explosive effects or powering weapons that fly farther or faster, novel explosives and propellants promise to increase the lethality of U.S. munitions and, potentially, reduce the number of weapons required to conduct offensive and defensive military operations.
