Se trata de disponer de un arma que otorgue nuevas capacidades, en t\u00e9rminos de velocidad (&gt; Mach 5), maniobrabilidad, alcance y altitud. El requerimiento a las empresas, es que el sistema debe ser desarrollado en tiempo breve, apto para su fabricaci\u00f3n en masa, con los menores costos posibles pero a su vez con altos est\u00e1ndares de letalidad. Con un amplio rango operativo de entre 250 y 2.000 millas n\u00e1uticas, el misil deber\u00e1 ser apto para su lanzamiento desde aeronaves, buques de guerra o plataformas terrestres. DARPA exige un proceso de I&amp;D + P acelerado, con el aporte de innovaciones en propulsi\u00f3n scramjet, materiales aptos para soportar altas temperaturas y m\u00faltiples ensayos. Una necesidad de desarrollo, motivada por los recientes avances en el desarrollo y empleo de armas hipers\u00f3nicas de otras potencias, como el misil ruso\u00a0Zirc\u00f3n ya utilizado en la guerra de Ucrania.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">As U.S. air defenses intercept Iranian missiles, the Pentagon is concerned that American missiles are vulnerable to enemy air defenses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Consequently, DARPA wants a hypersonic scramjet cruise missile that is capable of evading enemy interceptors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cFuture U.S. military operations face increasingly significant challenges from the rapid proliferation and advancement of highly capable Integrated Air Defense Systems (IADS) by peer adversaries,\u201d warned DARPA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sam.gov\/workspace\/contract\/opp\/1ea684979ef64a88a4498faa84469c93\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Request for Information<\/a>, which is due October 6. \u201cThese systems threaten to restrict the operational freedom of U.S. forces and diminish the effectiveness of current stand-off strike capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Next Generation Hypersonic Cruise Missile, or NGHCM, aims to demonstrate that it is possible to develop a cruise missile that is both survivable and affordable enough to be manufactured in large quantities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cThis demonstrator must establish the foundation for a next-generation capability that delivers a revolutionary leap in operational performance\u2014specifically in range, cruise speed, and\/or altitude,\u201d DARPA said. \u201cDARPA strongly encourages responses to this RFI from non-traditional defense contractors and emerging technology developers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The RFI asks companies to address three \u201cfocus areas.\u201d The first is the overall missile concept.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cHow does the architecture balance advancements in foundational physical parameters (payload, range, speed, altitude) against other critical factors (e.g., midcourse maneuverability, signature, or platform capacity) to achieve a revolutionary leap in mission effectiveness and survivability?\u201d the RFI asks.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18973\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18973\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18973\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/LKKS5DSYNRC5NC5I5MK6BYZJJU.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/LKKS5DSYNRC5NC5I5MK6BYZJJU.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/LKKS5DSYNRC5NC5I5MK6BYZJJU-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/LKKS5DSYNRC5NC5I5MK6BYZJJU-768x480.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18973\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Russian Zircon hypersonic cruise missile is launched from the Admiral Groshkov frigate on Oct. 7, 2020, in the White Sea. Potential options listed in the RFI include tactical fighters, external or internal mounts on heavy bombers, surface-based vertical launch systems, and \u201cHeavy Ground-Launch \/ Strategic Defense Class\u201d platforms that would \u201cmaximize the range\/payload advantages of an airbreathing cruiser paradigm at larger scales.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">DARPA is also looking for a weapon that could be quickly fielded. Companies are asked to \u201cidentify an optimized, accelerated schedule to reach first flight for the major technical milestones and review gates, rather than relying on traditional, sluggish acquisition models.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The second focus area involves demonstrating technologies such as \u201cair-breathing propulsion systems, high energy density fuels, advanced booster technologies, high-temperature materials, thermal management solutions, and high-performance power generation\/ actuation\/fuel systems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The third focus area seeks innovative ways to test the missile quickly.
