Es importante destacar que cada disparo errado, aumenta el riesgo propio al ser detectada la posici\u00f3n por el oponente. \u201cOne shot \u2013 one kill\u201d era una premisa propia de los snipers y ahora es demandada incluso por las tropas regulares.Las principales \u00e1reas de desarrollo de los proyectos, se enfocan en identificaci\u00f3n y \u201ctracking\u201d de blancos, ajustes de la punter\u00eda a la bal\u00edstica del proyectil, as\u00ed como compensaci\u00f3n por efecto del viento y otros aspectos de meteorolog\u00eda.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/resizer\/TEf3278x6I1HmKhS7gpgr2eExd0=\/1200x0\/filters:quality(100)\/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-mco.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/3LUVWKB4YNBYNJ3X7BGGGKJNIY.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"390\" height=\"260\" \/>Army researchers are working on four current programs geared toward making it so future shooters can\u2019t miss.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Darren Ward reviewed the progress of the programs at this year\u2019s Association of the U.S. Army\u2019s Annual Meeting and Exposition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Ward is the head of the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center\u2019s Optics and Targeting Branch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The programs focus on identifying and tracking human targets, adjusting aim for ballistics and compensating for wind.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">All are expected to be incorporated into the Army\u2019s Next Generation Squad Weapon, with a target of having the weapon and at least some of the fire control capabilities ready for testing in the next three years, officials said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The Small Arms Weapon and Fire Control device for which Ward and his researchers have built a prototype uses a laser to identify human movement and then track that target within the scope or display.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The laser has a combination of a laser range finder, long-wave infrared camera and video camera all running off six AA batteries. At this point the prototype is too large to mount on a weapon, but in testing the laser could steer the shooter to the target and compensate for \u201cgunner wobble.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Another program, the Rifle Integrated Optic, gives the shooter an optic that enhances the view, increases hit probability, reduces time to engage and increases target recognition. That device has not been ruggedized and is being used now as a comparison item to currently available commercial optics to help researcher gauge shooter needs, Ward said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The Advanced Small Arms Ballistic System takes the capabilities of current artillery systems and shrinks them down to nearly the rifle size. It is a streamlined computer that can factor in GPS, laser range finder, compass orientation and weather conditions to better align the shooter to the target, depending on the ammunition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">It contains a data library for calibers ranging from 5.56 mm to .50-caliber.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">But one factor that affects accuracy at ranges beyond 300 meters is wind.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">So, Ward\u2019s researchers have partnered with Sandia National Laboratories to fund a project dubbed the Precision Optical Wind System, or POWS. The system is undergoing testing in Texas this month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">It uses multiple lasers that touch the target and then reflect to the device.
