Se\u00a0<\/span>tiene previsto present<span lang=\"ES-AR\">ar<\/span><span lang=\"ES-AR\">\u00a0<\/span>pa<span lang=\"ES-AR\">r<\/span>a el 2019, un prototipo fu<span lang=\"ES-AR\">n<\/span>cional que per<span lang=\"ES-AR\">mi<\/span>ta validar la capacidad de lanzar y recuperar enjambres de Drones, equipados y programados para el desarrollo de misiones espec<span lang=\"ES-AR\">\u00edficas, individuales o de conjunto. En esta primera etapa se prev\u00e9 que los drones sean lanzados desde aeronaves C130.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/resizer\/82iDliY_kPUhpa-MzCUkXxC-6jw=\/1200x0\/filters:quality(100)\/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-mco.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/C5UQXKOECBHLVII766YFSMKRGE.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"220\" \/>Swarms of small drones launched and recovered mid-air from transport and bomber aircraft are on the Department of Defense\u2019s dream sheet over the next few years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The Defense Advanced Research Project Agency plans to demonstrate the ability to launch and recover swarms of drones from a C-130 sometime in 2019, according to statements by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.darpa.mil\/news-events\/2017-03-15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">agency\u00a0<\/a>and by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ga-asi.com\/ga-asi-continues-gremlins-phase-two-for-darpa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">General Atomics Aeronautical Systems<\/a>, one of two companies contracted to design prototype of the drones. The other is Dynetics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The test would serve as a major leap into the next phase of testing for DARPA\u2019s Gremlins program.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Gremlins \u2014 an initiative DARPA says is named after the imaginary, mischievous imps that became good luck charms for British pilots in WWII \u2014 is intended to give the U.S. military \u201cimproved operational flexibility at a much lower cost than is possible with today\u2019s expensive, all-in-one platforms,\u201d according to a DARPA statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Once dispatched, the drones would be outfitted with different payloads in order to accomplish an assortment of missions, to include ISR, electronic warfare, signals intelligence and even kinetic effects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cWhen the gremlins complete their mission, a C-130 transport aircraft would retrieve them in the air and carry them home, where ground crews would prepare them for their next use within 24 hours,\u201d the DARPA statement reads.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Although the technology to project volleys of cheap, reusable drones was previously out of reach for defense contractors, the Gremlins program has gradually dialed in on the possibility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The program also seeks to one day launch the drones from smaller fixed-wing aircraft, such as fighters, while still keeping those manned platforms out of the range of enemy air defenses.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The program\u2019s first phase concluded in March, and showed the program was not just feasible, but \u201cwould require minimal modification to the host aircraft,\u201d said Scott Wierzbanowski, the DARPA program manager, in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">During the second phase, the team aims to complete preliminary designs for full-scale technology demonstrations, Wierzbanowski added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Each drone would be capable of a remaining on station for one hour at a range of 300 nautical miles while carrying a 60-pound payload, according to General Atomics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The company is incorporating commercial technology to drive down the cost of the gremlins. The goal is for each drone to come in under $500,000 per unit, a company representative<a class=\"\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/air\/2017\/08\/24\/general-atomics-sheds-light-on-the-future-of-unmanned-tech\/\">\u00a0<\/a>told Defense News, a sister publication,\u00a0<a class=\"\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/air\/2017\/08\/24\/general-atomics-sheds-light-on-the-future-of-unmanned-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at an August demonstration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The company has two options for recovery systems. The first can be mounted on the wings of an aircraft, while the second is loaded in the cargo bay. A company official declined to comment to Defense News on how many gremlins could be carried on the wing for competitive reasons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The hope is that the gremlins could be reused up to about 20 times.
