<\/u>BAE Systems ha recibido un contrato de US$ 8M para el desarrollo de kits de guiado de munici\u00f3n de artiller\u00eda calibre 155mm, que sean capaces de funcionar con extrema precisi\u00f3n, inclusive en operaciones de guerra con restricciones del tipo \u201cAnti Access \/ Aerial Denial\u201d\u00a0(A2\/AD). En estas situaciones, donde el oponente ha anulado\u00a0\u00a0el acceso a sistemas de posicionamiento\u00a0\u00a0satelital GPS, resulta imprescindible mantener los est\u00e1ndares de precisi\u00f3n y efectividad de las \u201csmart munitions\u201d,\u00a0\u00a0basadas en sistemas de guiado GPS.<\/p>\n

Operating in a GPS-jammed environment is becoming increasingly important, especially as the U.S. Army examines how it might go up against an adversary with capabilities similar to its own. Hardening weapon systems\u2019 capabilities in anti-access, area denial operations and against cyberattacks is critical for the future fight, the Army says.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The kits will provide 155mm artillery munitions with the capability to make in-flight course corrections that contribute to strike accuracy and greater range, the statement added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe precision strike capability also allows war fighters to accurately engage targets for longer periods of time with less ammunition and logistical sustainment,\u201d the statement noted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The new guidance kits serve as an example of how the Army is finding ways to make what it already owns more capable and flexible in current and future fights.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

According to BAE Systems, its precision guidance kits are \u201ccompatible\u201d with current and experimental artillery munitions and propellants, as well as\u00a0firing platforms<\/a>\u00a0like the M777 lightweight towed howitzers and the M109 self-propelled howitzer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

General Dynamics also received a contract to provide the Army with PGKs but did not release an announcement.<\/p>\n

After November 2018, the Army will launch a full-and-open competition to procure PGKs where any company can submit a proposal regardless of whether it currently holds an Army contract to develop the kits. One company will be chosen as a winner to provide guidance kits for 155mm artillery munitions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
