Por esa raz\u00f3n, el presupuesto asignado a DARPA para avanzar en el desarrollo de armas hipers\u00f3nicas, se ha incrementado considerablemente en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os. El fundamento es que, la amenaza de estas armas en poder el oponente, a\u00fan las de car\u00e1cter t\u00e1ctico o local, pone en riesgo el despliegue en operaciones de cualquier Fuerza de Tareas Naval.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/resizer\/dQ2UZ0pjfz0wDlk_oKt2iH5Ttcg=\/1200x0\/filters:quality(100)\/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-mco.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/7L2VFJ6LQ5DOLKY353G5YLOMFY.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"396\" height=\"221\" \/>WASHINGTON \u2015 As China and Russia\u00a0<a class=\"\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/pentagon\/2018\/01\/30\/the-pentagon-is-planning-for-war-with-china-and-russia-can-it-handle-both\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">threaten to overtake<\/a>\u00a0the U.S. with new technologies, development of\u00a0<a class=\"\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/pentagon\/2018\/03\/02\/as-putin-touts-hypersonic-weapons-america-prepares-its-own-arsenal-will-it-be-in-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hypersonic capabilities<\/a>\u00a0is the \u201chighest technical priority\u201d for Michael Griffin, the Pentagon\u2019s new undersecretary of defense for research and engineering.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m sorry for everybody out there who champion some other high priority, some technical thing; it\u2019s not that I disagree with those. But there has to be a first, and hypersonics is my first,\u201d Griffin said at the McAleese\/Credit Suisse conference Tuesday, in his first public comments\u00a0<a class=\"\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/pentagon\/2018\/02\/01\/the-pentagons-acquisition-office-is-gone-heres-what-the-next-120-days-bring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">since taking office<\/a>\u00a010 days ago.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The department will be looking to invest more in both offensive hypersonics capabilities and ways to\u00a0<a class=\"\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/special-reports\/missile-defense\/2018\/02\/14\/missile-defense-agency-asks-for-700-million-to-bolster-hypersonic-defense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">defend against the threat<\/a>, with new budget items likely to appear in the fiscal 2020 budget, Griffin said, adding that the goal is to leapfrog the work that China and Russia are doing in the hypersonic realm.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cI didn\u2019t take this job so that we could regain parity with our adversaries. As I\u2019ve taken to saying: \u2018I want to see their hand and raise them one. I want to make them worry about catching up with us again,\u2019 \u201d he said. \u201cAny American, any ally or partner that we have who doesn\u2019t see it that way, I don\u2019t have time for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The necessity, in Griffin\u2019s mind, comes from the way hypersonic weapons can put at risk America\u2019s ability to project power.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cWhen the Chinese can deploy [a] tactical or regional hypersonic system, they hold at risk our carrier battle groups. They hold our entire surface fleet at risk. They hold at risk our forward-deployed forces and land-based forces,\u201d Griffin said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cWithout our ability to defend and without at least an equal response capability on the offensive side, then what we have done is we have allowed a situation to exist where our deployed forces are held at risk and we cannot do the same for them,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd so our only response is either to let them have their way or to go nuclear. And that should be an unacceptable situation for the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency budget for hypersonic weapons has increased steadily over the last two years, but more funding would inevitably be welcomed by supporters of the technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">In FY17, Congress appropriated $85.5 million for hypersonics. That went up to $108.6 million in the FY18 request, a 27 percent increase.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">And for the recently released FY19 request, the figure shoots up to $256.7 million \u2014 a whopping 136 percent increase, but still a fairly low figure by Pentagon standards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">In terms of hypersonic development, Griffin will have allies inside the Pentagon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Lt. Gen. Samuel Greaves, the director of the Missile Defense Agency, said the pace at which Russia and China are \u201cresearching, developing, testing, delivering weapons systems\u201d requires his agency to take the hypersonic threat seriously.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12 col-xs-12 col-print-12\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">And Gen.
