These new proposals include the addition of a\u00a0hypervelocity or ramjet-powered\u00a0projectile for existing cannons, a\u00a0new quasi-ballistic missile\u00a0with anti-tank and\u00a0loitering munition\u00a0payloads, an ultra long range \u201csupergun,\u201d and a potentially treaty-busting\u00a0medium-range missile.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives from the service\u2019s new so-called \u201ccross functional team,\u201d or CFT, for Long Range Precision Fires, or LRPF, described this potential mix of systems at the Association of the United States Army&#8217;s Global Force Symposium in March 2018.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, the Army announced plans to create eight CFTs within a new Futures Command, bringing together service members and subject matter experts to explore new technologies in a variety of different functional areas.
