{"id":333,"date":"2015-08-19T13:43:25","date_gmt":"2015-08-19T16:43:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nachodelatorre.com.ar\/mosconi\/?p=333"},"modified":"2015-08-19T13:43:25","modified_gmt":"2015-08-19T16:43:25","slug":"massive-explosions-in-chinas-port-city-tianjin-leave-many-dead-injured","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/?p=333","title":{"rendered":"Massive explosions in China\u2019s port city Tianjin leave many dead, injured"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A fire and at least two massive explosions around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday local time injured hundreds and so far killed 17 people along with two firefighters who died at an industrial area roughly 75 miles southeast of Beijing.\u00a0Dozens of building collapsed are cars were burned out.\u00a0<span id=\"more-74556\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s People\u2019s Daily newspaper has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PDChina\/status\/631553118564581376\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> 17 people dead so far from the violent explosions at\u00a0the dock at the Tianjin Binhai New Development Zone. An additional 32 have serious injuries and 283 others are currently hospitalized, the newspaper reported. <!--more-->Reporters have been moved 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the explosion zone as the surrounding buildings are collapsing, and all residents have been evacuated.<\/p>\n<p>Police were focusing on\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">search and rescue operations rather than putting out the fire, as they want all chemicals to burn up completely. There was concern that high winds in the\u00a0area could cause yet another blast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Only one group\u00a0of firefighters were currently on site, in case of further explosions and to reduce the possibility of more casualties. More firefighters were standing by and v<span class=\"s1\">olunteers went to local hospitals to help.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Blood centers were calling for donations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Weibo users reported doors in their apartments were shaken off and many captured photos and video of the inferno. Several high-rise buildings are out of power. People standing outside of their buildings. Some have reported chemical gas leaks.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/ww1.sinaimg.cn\/bmiddle\/ed1eb4c1jw1ev0dh5fjglj20c80lqta5.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tianjin Fire Department<\/a> (link in Chinese) reported that the fire began about 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday local time, and two explosions followed within 30 seconds of each other. About 100 fire trucks have been sent to the scene, the department said.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/weibo.com\/ceic#_rnd1439405183558\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China Earthquake Networks Center <\/a>reported that the first explosion had a 2.3 degree magnitude (equivalent to 3 tons of TNT), and the second had a 2.9 degree magnitude (equivalent to 21 tons of TNT).<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/weibo.com\/p\/1001603875207965468243?from=page_100106_profile&amp;wvr=6&amp;mod=wenzhangmod\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tianjin Public Security Bureau<\/a>, the explosion happened at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruihailogistics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tianjin Dongjiang Port Rui Hai International Logistics Co. Ltd.<\/a>, which handles the transport of hazardous goods.
