El citado programa incluye al fusil de asalto y la ametralladora liviana, cuyos prototipos presentados por 5 empresas ser\u00e1n ensayados durante el presente a\u00f1o.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The long-awaited replacement to the standard\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2018\/07\/12\/the-armys-next-machine-gun-could-fire-caseless-ammo-and-one-of-these-companies-might-build-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">M16\/M4 service weapon<\/a>\u00a0and the squad level\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2018\/05\/08\/armys-next-squad-weapon-will-fire-a-never-before-seen-ammo-combination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">light machine gun<\/a>\u00a0are expected to be on the firing line in summer 2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2018\/10\/09\/major-changes-for-small-arms-are-on-the-way-with-the-armys-saw-replacement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Next Generation Squad Weapon<\/a>\u00a0program has seen rapid changes and a flow of top-tier support that may bring an end to close combat reliance on a weapon that\u2019s been in service for more than half a century.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">After much public guessing on what caliber the new weapon might fall into, the Army selected 6.8mm as the caliber for both its M16\/M4 and Squad Automatic Weapon replacement with a prototype notice posted in October.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The weapon will go to close combat Army, Marine and special operations forces \u2014 primarily the \u201cclose combat 100,000,\u201d which is mostly infantry, cavalry scouts, reconnaissance and some combat engineers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Prior to the selection, officials asked industry to give their best bets on a round that would meet ramped up distance, accuracy and lethality on impact somewhere between 5.56mm and 7.62mm, the current standard rounds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Before that notice posted, the Army selected five companies to provide six prototypes for the automatic weapon portion to test fire in June.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Those companies are:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-list\">\n<ul class=\"element-ul\">\n<li>AAI Corporation Textron Systems<\/li>\n<li>FN America LLC<\/li>\n<li>General Dynamics-OTS Inc.<\/li>\n<li>PCP Tactical, LLC.<\/li>\n<li>Sig Sauer Inc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Each will submit one prototype for the Next Generation Squad Automatic Rifle, except for FN, which has been allowed to submit two variants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Until the caliber selection notice, the goal was to first develop the NGSAR and then allow its advancements to inform the development of the M4 replacement, the NGSW-Rifle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">But, Brig. Gen. Anthony Potts, who heads Program Executive Office-Soldier, said the new approach will be to develop both with the same round.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Key to the weapon system will be its new fire controls. Those will incorporate a Heads Up Display that uses a Rapid Targeting Acquisition Technology.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The technology allows troops to fire their weapons around corners from concealment and, paired with an advanced binocular night vision, to see through smoke, fog and dust as they fire.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Also, the display will allow for units to see where friendly forces are, like a mini-Blue Force Tracker, and mark waypoints and other items to communicate visually on the move.
