La empresa SIG SAUER ha presentado su nuevo modelo de ametralladora liviana, en calibre\u00a0<strong>.338 Norma Magnum<\/strong>. La misma reemplazar\u00eda a la reconocida FN MAG (7.62mm), con la finalidad de satisfacer los requerimientos del US Army establecidos en el Programa NGSW (Next Generation Squad Weapon). (Matthew Cox\/Staff)\" width=\"342\" height=\"228\" \/>At their pre-SHOT Show\u00a0range\u00a0day\u00a0SIG\u00a0Sauer\u00a0have demonstrated their new\u00a0light\u00a0machine\u00a0gun, the SLMAG.\u00a0TFB reported back in October 2018, that\u00a0SIG Sauer\u00a0had displayed their new\u00a0light\u00a0machine gun\u00a0at the 2018 Association of the United States Army exposition. Now, thanks to footage from SIG\u2019s\u00a0range\u00a0day we get our first glimpse of the SL\u00a0MAG, chambered in .338 Norma\u00a0Magnum, in action.<\/p>\n<p>The gun\u2019s designer,\u00a0David Steimke, discussed some of the weapon\u2019s features and noted that the SLMAG is a multi-calibre design with the new\u00a0light machine\u00a0also providing the basis for\u00a0SIG\u00a0Sauer\u2019s\u00a0entry\u00a0into the US Army\u2019s Next Generation Squad Weapon program. According to\u00a0Military.com, Paul Snyder, SIG\u2019s product manager for their new\u00a0light\u00a0machine gun\u00a0project, confirmed that\u00a0\u201cWe will not be submitting this, but we are working on the prototype opportunity notice for the U.S. Army.\u201d Snyder described their NGSW\u00a0entryas \u2018very, very similar\u2019 suggesting that their\u00a0entry\u00a0is likely a SLMAG chambered in the US Army\u2019s new spec XM1168 6.8mm GP\u00a0round.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0.338 Norma\u00a0Magnum\u00a0SLMAG demonstrated has a rate of fire of 600\u00a0rounds\u00a0per minute and an effective\u00a0range\u00a0of 2000 metres. Developed as an answer to\u00a0General Dynamics\u2019\u00a0Lightweight Medium Machine Gun, the\u00a0guns\u00a0were likely intended to meet the need established by a\u00a0Sources Sought Solicitation\u00a0posted by the United States Special Operations Command and the United States\u00a0MarineCorps back in May 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Some footage of the SL\u00a0MAG\u00a0in action:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"XFF7pex518o\" class=\"youtube-player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XFF7pex518o?version=3&amp;rel=1&amp;fs=1&amp;autohide=2&amp;showsearch=0&amp;showinfo=1&amp;iv_load_policy=1&amp;wmode=transparent\" width=\"660\" height=\"402\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The SLMAG reportedly weighs in at 20 lbs,\u00a0lighter\u00a0even than the M240B. The\u00a0gun\u00a0was demonstrated by\u00a0Colin Murphy, one of the\u00a0SIG\u00a0Sauer\u00a0Academy\u2019s instructors and a US Army\u2019s 3rd\u00a0Special Forces\u00a0Group veteran, he described it as \u201cthe lightest, most powerful [man-portable]\u00a0machine\u00a0gun\u00a0on the face of the earth.\u201d Soldier Systems reports that the SLMAG can be loaded without having to open the top cover and the direction of feed can be swapped.
