Se estima realizar los ensayos operativos hacia el 2022.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/resizer\/lihyd1f4SK5hoLRDvgyMG50VsFE=\/1200x0\/filters:quality(100)\/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-mco.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/WI7KBYKLIBCP3DCIMZSXL53ZXM.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"283\" \/>WASHINGTON\u00a0&#8211; A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/smd\/2018\/08\/07\/lockheed-dynetics-team-and-raytheon-locked-in-battle-to-build-100-kilowatt-laser-for-us-army\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dynetics and Lockheed Martin<\/a>\u00a0team have beaten out Raytheon in a head-to-head competition to build a 100-kilowatt\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/opinion\/commentary\/2018\/08\/01\/3-reasons-why-the-time-is-now-for-directed-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">laser weapon<\/a>\u00a0for the U.S. Army.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The Army awarded a $130 million contract to the Dynetics-Lockheed team to build the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command\/Army Forces Strategic Command\u2019s High Energy Laser Tactical Vehicle Demonstrator (HEL TVD) laser system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Under the program, Dynetics \u2014 the prime contractor \u2014 will integrate the laser system onto the Family of Medium-Tactical Vehicles, with the effort culminating in a test of the entire system in 2022 at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. The Army began its effort to get a more powerful laser onto a vehicle less bulky than a Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck in 2016.<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The HEL TVD program is a science and technology demonstration program that will work toward incorporating a laser into the Army\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2019\/04\/25\/army-reworking-enduring-plans-for-indirect-fires-protection-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2<\/a>\u00a0that aims to defend against rockets, artillery and mortars as well as cruise missiles and drones.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/global-force-symposium\/2017\/03\/16\/us-army-gets-world-record-setting-60-kw-laser\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Laser weapons\u00a0<\/a>for platforms like IFPC Inc. 2 are being hotly pursued because regular interceptors quickly run out and are expensive. A laser weapon will have a much larger number of shots depending on power availability and would be far less expensive to fire at a threat than a missile.<\/p>\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cHigh energy laser weapons have been a system that the United States has wanted to add into their defense portfolio since the invention of the laser. We are glad to be selected to build this new and safe weapon system that will provide a simple, yet cost-effective approach in theater,\u201d Ronnie Chronister, Dynetics senior vice president of contracts, said in a March 15 company statement.<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Lockheed Martin will supply the laser subsystem as well as other key elements, and will serve as the lead systems integrator.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The spectral beam-combined fiber laser subsystem that Lockheed is developing for the program uses the company\u2019s experience gained from the Army\u2019s Robust Electric Laser Initiative program as well as the \u201cAthena\u201d and \u201cAladin\u201d laser programs, among other efforts within the Air Force and the Navy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Rolls-Royce will supply its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/industry\/2019\/05\/10\/rolls-royce-unveils-hybrid-power-system-for-laser-weapons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">newly unveiled integrated power and thermal management system<\/a>\u00a0designed optimally to power a 100-kilowatt-class laser weapon.<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The system uses the company\u2019s well-known M250 helicopter engine \u2014 that was used in the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter and is also found in the Little Bird and the AH-6i helicopters \u2014 which allows the system to generate roughly 300 kilowatts of electrical power and 200 kilowatts of thermal management capacity, according to Mark Wilson, the chief operating officer at Rolls-Royce\u2019s LibertyWorks division. But the system is also considered hybrid, as it combines a battery with the engine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Having already completed a preliminary design review, the Dynetics team will move to the critical design review \u201cas soon as possible,\u201d the company statement notes.
