Estos ensayos por ahora a nivel de subunidad t\u00e1ctica, permitir\u00e1n adquirir enorme experiencia y eventuales mejoras a implementar.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The U.S. Army will test new active protection systems on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/2018\/02\/08\/nine-abrams-tanks-fell-into-the-hands-of-iranian-backed-militias-during-anti-isis-fight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">M1 Abrams tanks<\/a> during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2019\/10\/15\/these-army-units-are-going-to-europe-this-spring-for-defender-2020-but-theyre-pretending-its-2028\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Defender Europe 2020<\/a> this spring, as well as send the service\u2019s first set of the new missile and rocket countermeasures to outfit an armored brigade on the continent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Made by Israeli manufacturers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/2018\/07\/05\/abrams-tanks-get-new-round-of-israeli-made-shields-to-fend-off-anti-tank-weapons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trophy active protection kits<\/a> use sensors to knock down incoming rocket-propelled grenades and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/flashpoints\/2019\/05\/16\/marine-in-vehicle-hit-by-an-isis-anti-tank-guided-missile-earns-bronze-star-for-valor-in-syria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">anti-tank guided missiles<\/a>, or ATGMs, shot by roving enemy troops.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Tanks aren\u2019t permanently affixed with Trophy kits, however, and that\u2019s part of what soldiers will practice for during Defender 2020, according to Army Europe commander Lt. Gen. Christopher G. Cavoli.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Because of the 2.5-ton weight of the kits, as well as their self-contained munitions, they\u2019re stored separately from tanks. But brackets have to be welded to the vehicle so a kit can even be equipped when needed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cWhat we\u2019re going to do for Defender 2020 is practice that at the company level. We\u2019re going to equip one company,\u201d Cavoli said at the Pentagon on Monday. \u201cIt\u2019s the first time the U.S. Army is going to take an organic unit, a real live combat unit, and say \u2018here\u2019s your Trophy stuff, here\u2019s your supporting welders, get to work and mount it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The need for these systems is driven by real-world observations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Russian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/flashpoints\/2019\/05\/16\/marine-in-vehicle-hit-by-an-isis-anti-tank-guided-missile-earns-bronze-star-for-valor-in-syria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">9M133 Kornets,<\/a> American BGM-71 TOWs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/flashpoints\/2017\/08\/16\/turkish-variants-of-the-us-m72-law-anti-tank-rocket-keep-ending-up-in-isis-stockpiles\/\">Chinese Red Arrows<\/a>, and Iranian Toophans are a staple of modern Middle East conflicts, as evidenced by videos across the internet of them destroying Syrian Army <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2019\/11\/05\/hollywood-gives-army-faux-russian-t-72-tanks-to-train-against\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">T-72 main battle tanks<\/a>, among other vehicles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Israeli armor crews reported safely intercepting a range of projectiles with their Trophy systems during the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2016\/01\/28\/israel-to-equip-troop-carriers-with-trophy-aps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> 2014 Gaza Strip conflict<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cWe have seen a proliferation of ATGMs \u2014 high-quality ATGMs like the Kornet advanced models \u2014 throughout the world,\u201d Cavoli said. \u201cThose can\u2019t be defeated without active protection systems, a combination of reactive tile armor and active shoot-down systems.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Trophy kits have computer processors that detect, classify and track incoming rounds. Israeli firms producing the equipment advertise that Trophy kits can also locate the source of an incoming shot, allowing for counter-fire if the anti-tank shooters haven\u2019t scurried off.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Soldiers using the new Trophy systems during Defender 2020 will draw from prepositioned stock already in Europe.<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">To put the kits on, ballast and additional armor first has to be welded onto the tank, making a roughly 65-ton Abrams about 5,000 pounds heavier.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Radars, sensors and explosive devices that counter incoming rounds are mounted as well. In order to put on the heavier equipment, a tank also needs adjustments to its turret.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">During 2017 tests, crews noticed some turret imbalance problems from the additional weight, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20181123040740\/http:\/\/www.dote.osd.mil:80\/pub\/reports\/FY2017\/pdf\/army\/2017aps.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pentagon report that year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-image\">\n<figure class=\"element element-image \"><img loading=\"lazy\" id=\"E47YBCRKOFCKFCSXYMLX35L6KU\" class=\"image-lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/resizer\/vCH5bTjKKcjAsUwj4ULYdEbvOXw=\/600x0\/filters:quality(100)\/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-mco.s3.amazonaws.com\/public\/E47YBCRKOFCKFCSXYMLX35L6KU.jpg\" alt=\"Soldiers assigned to the Italy-based 173rd Airborne Brigade fire a BGM-71 TOW anti-armor missile system at the Estonia's Central Training Area on Sept. 26 as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve. Perna, who helms Army Materiel Command, will take the lead on studying the deployment of the Trophy system so the service can better understand what the process actually entails.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">Trophy kits have also been tested on Stryker personnel carriers and Bradley fighting vehicles, as the service works to upgrade its armor formations to counter peer adversaries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">During 2018 congressional testimony, then-Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley spoke with lawmakers about concerns that the United States was behind Russia in the development of active protection systems.<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">He also stressed that Abrams and Bradleys are due for retirement, dating back to when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">\u201cThey have served the nation extraordinarily well, but they are fundamentally at the end of their lifespan,\u201d Milley said in April 2018. \u201cWe\u2019ll probably get, max, another ten maybe 15 years out of these vehicles. We have maxed out their weight, the technological upgrades that we can do.
