Recientes ensayos permitieron obtener un alcance mayor a los 65 km y se espera incrementar los mismos, para disponer en condici\u00f3n operativa estos equipos en el 2023.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 The U.S. Army took two shots from its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/ausa\/2018\/10\/07\/from-paladin-upgrades-to-a-1000-mile-cannon-army-artillery-aims-high-er-farther\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Extended Range Cannon Artillery system<\/a>, which both reached 65 kilometers in range and hit their intended targets, in a demonstration at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona, on March 6, according to Brig. Gen. John Rafferty, who is in charge of long-range precision fires modernization, the Army\u2019s top priority.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The demonstration proves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/video\/2019\/10\/16\/check-out-baes-giant-erca-cannon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the cannon<\/a> is capable of firing roughly 40 miles, which is about the distance between Washington, D.C., and Annapolis, Maryland. The capability would also benefit the service should it face near-peer adversaries on the battlefield.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">It is unclear whether the Army was pushing its shots out to the maximum range of capability or if the projectiles are capable of reaching farther ranges.<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/digital-show-dailies\/global-force-symposium\/2019\/03\/27\/extended-range-cannon-to-get-autoloader-within-five-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">long-range cannon<\/a> is intended to give the service a desired level of standoff outside of the range of enemy artillery, where it can destroy those threats and open up windows of opportunity to advance on the enemy in highly contested environments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The Army\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2018\/03\/20\/army-to-demonstrate-precision-strike-hypersonics-and-ramjet-capabilities-in-just-a-few-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Long-Range Precision Fires <\/a>Cross-Functional Team under Army Futures Command has made the ERCA system development one of its centerpiece priorities over the past several years.<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">In 2018, the service was able to double the range of cannon artillery using a modified M777 howitzer by adding a supercharged propellant and the XM1113 rocket-assisted projectile, which takes a 155mm artillery round and extends the cannon range to more than 60 kilometers by providing rocket-assist capability.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">In the demonstration at Yuma, the Army fired \u2014 from a 58-caliber, 30-foot gun tube \u2014 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2020\/02\/05\/raytheons-advanced-excalibur-hits-moving-targets-in-test\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Raytheon-made Excalibur <\/a>extended-range guided artillery shell and an XM1113 using supercharged propellant<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The ERCA system in the demonstration \u2014 called the XM1299 prototype zero \u2014 was integrated by BAE Systems, the manufacturer of the M109A7 Paladin Integrated Management (PIM) howitzer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/land\/2019\/07\/15\/bae-gets-green-light-to-build-us-army-extended-range-cannon-prototype\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BAE Systems received an Army contract<\/a> less than a year ago in July 2019 to integrate the Army-developed cannon onto the PIM howitzer chassis, and the company will make the first 18 prototypes..<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">The Army will hold an industry day for ERCA\u2019s second increment in the next three to four months once the acquisition strategy is approved by Army leadership, Rafferty said during a media rountable following the demonstration. After the industry day, the Army will be able to discuss more publicly its business relationship going into the second prototyping phase, he added.<\/p>\n<div class=\" mco-body-item mco-body-type-text\">\n<p class=\"element element-paragraph\">he near-term objective on the program is to deliver approximately six batteries of the towed howitzer capabilities to be used in the field.
