Derivado de esos proyectos, se ha ensayado con \u00e9xito el disparo de proyectiles HVP desde Armas de Artiller\u00eda de Campa\u00f1a de 155mm, para derribar misiles de crucero, lo cual constituye un extraordinario avance que podr\u00eda revolucionar los sistemas de defensa a\u00e9rea tradicionales.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The U.S. military&#8217;s vaunted hypervelocity projectile just took a major step towards knocking incoming cruise missiles out of the sky.<\/p>\n<p>Breaking Defense reports <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2020\/09\/abms-demo-proves-ai-chops-for-c2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that<\/a>\u00a0the Air Force recently used the HVP \u2014 a low-drag, guided projectile capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 5 \u2014 to down a BQM-167 target drone over the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0BQM-167 drone &#8220;served as surrogates for Russian cruise missiles&#8221; during a demonstration of the Air Force&#8217;s Advanced Battle Management System that&#8217;s designed to enable the rapid detection and destruction of incoming missiles.<\/p>\n<p>The HVP was fired from an Army M109 Paladin-based 155mm howitzer and a Navy deck gun during the demonstration, <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2020\/09\/abms-demo-proves-ai-chops-for-c2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Breaking Defense.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTanks shooting down cruise missiles is awesome,&#8221; Dr. Will Roper, assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition, technology, and logistics,<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2020\/09\/abms-demo-proves-ai-chops-for-c2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> told reporters<\/a>. &#8220;Video game, sci-fi awesome.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6538\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6538\" style=\"width: 795px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6538\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/batalla1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"524\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/batalla1.jpg 795w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/batalla1-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/batalla1-768x506.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6538\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Slide 5 from Navy briefing entitled \u201cElectromagnetic Railgun\u201d presented at the NDIA Joint Armaments Forum, Exhibition &amp; Technology Demonstration, May 14, 2014.<br \/>(U.S. Navy via Congressional Research Service)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Originally developed starting in 2013 as specialized ammo for the Navy&#8217;s much-hyped (and <a href=\"https:\/\/taskandpurpose.com\/military-tech\/navy-electromagnetic-railgun-funding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">decidedly stagnant<\/a>) electromagnetic railgun, the Pentagon&#8217;s Strategic Capabilities Office (SCO) has since transitioned the HVP for use from conventional powder weapons like Army howitzers and Navy deck guns.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, the Navy reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/taskandpurpose.com\/military-tech\/navy-hypervelocity-projectile-test\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">test-fired<\/a> 20 next-generation HVP shells from the USS Dewey&#8217;s Mk 45 five-inch deck guns during the service&#8217;s annual Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) maritime exercise.<\/p>\n<p>The advantage of the HVP over conventional missile defenses <a href=\"https:\/\/taskandpurpose.com\/hvp-hypersonic-projectile-weapon-test\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">is a matter of cost<\/a>: While the standard Evolved Seasparrow Missile or Rolling Airframe Missile cost several million dollars apiece,\u00a0HVP program manager Vincent Sabio <a href=\"https:\/\/taskandpurpose.com\/hvp-hypersonic-projectile-weapon-test\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pegged<\/a> the cost of an HVP at around $85,000 apiece.<\/p>\n<p>The same logic applies to the\u00a0standard Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) interceptors that fill mobile THAAD batteries around the world, Sabio added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur finger pauses over the fire button just because we know every time we push it we\u2019re pushing a fair amount of money out of that launcher,\u201d he said of the Patriot.
