El mismo permite establecer el nivel y gravedad del trauma cerebral (TBI) \u00a0sufrido por combatientes, como consecuencia de explosiones, por estar bajo el fuego de artiller\u00eda o por accidentes graves con traumatismos de cr\u00e1neo. Entre 2000 y 2019 m\u00e1s de 400.000 soldados de ese pa\u00eds, han sufrido diversos grados de TBI, por lo que el nuevo desarrollo constituye una extraordinaria herramienta que facilita y optimiza las acciones de \u201cTriage\u201d y tratamiento posterior de los heridos.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"o-articleBody__text a-body1 element element-paragraph\">The Army recently gained approval for a rapid blood test for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/opinion\/commentary\/2020\/02\/01\/debate-over-brain-injuries-in-us-military-a-teachable-moment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">traumatic brain injury<\/a> that can be used on the battlefield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"o-articleBody__text a-body1 element element-paragraph\">For at least the past decade researchers have been seeking a way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/your-army\/2017\/10\/29\/the-army-is-buying-a-device-that-can-quickly-assess-traumatic-brain-injury-on-the-battlefield\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">quickly detect and diagnose TBI<\/a>, according to an Army statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"o-articleBody__text a-body1 element element-paragraph\">\u201cA rapid test for TBI is a critical addition to our downrange capability to care for the brain health of our most important weapon system, the warfighter, and help maintain a high state of readiness across the Force,\u201d said Army Brig. Gen. Michael J. Talley, commanding general for the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command and Fort Detrick, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"o-articleBody__text a-body1 element element-paragraph\">The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the test for use last week, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"o-articleBody__text a-body1 element element-paragraph\">From 2000 to 2019, more than 400,000 troops sustained a TBI from combat injuries, training accidents and sporting events, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"o-articleBody__text a-body1 element element-paragraph\">The test, known as the Abbott i-STAT Alinity TBI plasma assay, identifies two brain-specific protein markers that appear following a TBI incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"o-articleBody__text a-body1 element element-paragraph\">That gives medics, nurses and doctors clear evidence of the condition rather than relying on subjective descriptions.
