The U.S. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/air-force\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Air Force<\/a> plans to thwart such a potential threat with its new counter-drone Tactical High-power Operational Responder.<\/p>\n<p>The service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/2658386\/afrls-thor-hammers-drones-in-new-video-animation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published a video this month<\/a> showing how its THOR directed-energy system uses powerful microwaves to take out incoming drones at long range by disrupting their electronics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A target is identified, the silent weapon discharges in less than a second, and the impact is instantaneous,&#8221; according to the video narration.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike a laser, which can disable only one drone at a time, THOR has been engineered to kill them in groups or swarms, according to a release accompanying the video. The Air Force Research Lab, which is spearheading the project, has already used THOR in a real-world test that took out hundreds of drones, the service said.<\/p>\n<p>The system, which looks like a standard Conex box with a satellite dish strapped to it, is housed at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/base-guide\/kirtland-air-force-base\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kirtland Air Force Base<\/a>, New Mexico. The 20-foot container can be transported anywhere via a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/equipment\/c-130-hercules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">C-130 Hercules<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/players.brightcove.net\/77374810001\/HLNhtvNKjM_default\/index.html?videoId=6259858621001\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Two personnel can set the system up in under three hours, the service said, adding that it is less expensive to use than a surface-to-air weapon.<\/p>\n<p>In February, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/army\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Army announced<\/a> that it will partner with the Air Force on THOR; during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2019\/04\/25\/air-forces-mjolnir-service-testing-thor-anti-drone-system.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its development phase<\/a>, the system was referred to as the Tactical High-power Microwave Operational Responder.<\/p>\n<p>Defense against small drones has become a growing priority for the Pentagon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/air\/2017\/07\/14\/small-drones-still-posing-big-problem-for-us-air-force-bases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in recent years<\/a>, especially as they are easy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2019\/10\/11\/thousands-more-troops-deploying-saudi-arabia-iran-threatens.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">obtain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some bases have already invested in defenses against small unmanned aircraft. And for the past several years, combat units overseas have been equipped with drone-disabling systems such as Dedrone&#8217;s DroneDefender, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/defensetech\/2016\/10\/24\/air-force-zaps-isis-drone-with-electronic-weapon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a shoulder-fired weapon<\/a> that disables them with radio waves.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, members of the 379th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2021\/05\/20\/key-middle-east-base-first-get-drone-fighting-quadcopters.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began implementing<\/a> counter-small unmanned aerial systems, or CUAS, for extra security and perimeter defense.<\/p>\n<p>The initiatives are part of the military&#8217;s efforts to better <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2020\/12\/11\/congress-wants-beef-army-effort-develop-counter-drone-weapons.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">safeguard bases<\/a> against small drones designed to disrupt operations or spy on aircraft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fuente:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2021\/06\/21\/air-forces-thor-microwave-weapon-instantly-ends-enemy-drone-attack-new-video.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>https:\/\/www.military.com<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>La defensa contra peque\u00f1os drones se ha convertido en una prioridad creciente para el Pent\u00e1gono.
