El mismo tiene por objetivo el reemplazo de la totalidad de los fusiles M4 y las ametralladoras livianas M249, en servicio en el US Army y US Marines. La FCU es una verdadera \u201ccomputadora\u201d colocada en el fusil, que incluye: sistema optoelectr\u00f3nico de aumentaci\u00f3n, Laser Rangefinder; Sensores atmosf\u00e9ricos, todo ello relacionado con un Computador bal\u00edstico, con toda la informaci\u00f3n necesaria para un disparo m\u00e1s preciso y eficiente. Se estima que ser\u00e1n fabricadas unas 250.000 unidades en un\u00a0 lapso de 10 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Vortex Optics\u2019 submission to the US Army\u2019s\u00a0Next Generation Squad Weapons \u2013 Fire Control procurement program has been selected and is set to become the XM157 NGSW-FC.<\/p>\n<p>The optic will equip the winning submission from the US Army\u2019s Next Generation Squad Weapons program which seeks to select a new rifle and automatic rifle to replace the M4 and M249 in close combat units.<\/p>\n<p>Sources suggest that the US Army will be announcing the outcome of the NGSW program in the next couple of months. With the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefirearmblog.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/18\/textron-ngsw-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apparent exit of Textron<\/a>, the Army\u2019s choice is between submission from SIG Sauer and Lone Star Future Weapons\/True Velocity.<\/p>\n<p>The Fire Control unit procurement program has been less well reported but is no less important as the ballistics of the 6.8mm round the US Army has requested the NGSW submissions use can be utilized at ranges beyond what is currently expected of riflemen. In April 2020\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefirearmblog.com\/blog\/2020\/04\/20\/vortex-awarded-ota-for-the-us-armys-next-gen-squad-weapon-fire-control-prototype-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vortex was awarded a development contrac<\/a>t to provide prototype FC units for testing. Selection of the optic was originally expected in late summer 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Vortex\u2019s XM157 beat the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefirearmblog.com\/blog\/2020\/04\/24\/l3-harris-technologies-will-support-the-us-army-for-next-generation-squad-weapon-fire-control-solution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">submission from L3Harris Technologies<\/a>\u00a0to win the 10 year fixed price contract worth a minimum of $20 million but with a \u201cmaximum ceiling value of $2.7 billion for production and delivery of up to 250,000 XM157\u201d optics.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9218\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9218\" style=\"width: 864px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9218\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/fg_3883431-idr-10252.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/fg_3883431-idr-10252.jpg 864w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/fg_3883431-idr-10252-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fie.undef.edu.ar\/ceptm\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/fg_3883431-idr-10252-768x431.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 864px) 100vw, 864px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9218\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">L3Harris\u2019s candidate for the US Army\u2019s NGSW-FC system (L3Harris)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<article id=\"post-1187740\" class=\"has-thumb post-1187740 post type-post status-publish format-image has-post-thumbnail hentry category-breaking-news category-daily-news category-mil-le category-optics-guns-gear tag-vortex tag-next-generation-squad-weapons-fire-control tag-ngsw tag-ngsw-fc tag-us-army post_format-post-format-image pmpro-has-access\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The XM157 has a number of next gen features including a variable magnification optic, a built-in laser rangefinder and atmospheric sensors which feed into an onboard ballistic calculator. It also features a compass and intra-soldier wireless connectivity (presumably\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.overtdefense.com\/tag\/ivas\/\">alongside the IVAS kit which is in developmen<\/a>t). It also includes visible and infrared aiming lasers, and a digital display overlay.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s contract award announcement from US Army Soldier Lethality:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Army has awarded Sheltered Wings Inc. d\/b\/a Vortex Optics, based in Barneveld, WI, a 10-year firm fixed price, Follow-on Production Other Transaction Agreement (P-OTA) with a maximum ceiling value of $2.7 billion for production and delivery of up to 250,000 XM157 Next Generation Squad Weapons \u2013 Fire Control (NGSW-FC) systems over a 10-year period.<\/p>\n<p>The NGSW-FC system is a ruggedized fire control that increases accuracy and lethality for the Close Combat Force. It integrates a number of advanced technologies, including a variable magnification optic, backup etched reticle, laser rangefinder, ballistic calculator, atmospheric sensor suite, compass, Intra-Soldier Wireless, visible and infrared aiming lasers, and a digital display overlay.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement minimum is $20 million and provides the U.S. Government the ability to procure fire control systems, supporting accessories, spare parts, repairs, and engineering services, to include requirements for other Department of Defense Services and potential Foreign Military Sales.<\/p>\n<p>The NGSW-FC will serve as the fire control for the Next Generation Squad Weapons \u2013 Rifle and Automatic Rifle.
