Sin embargo, la invasi\u00f3n Rusa a Ucrania ha hecho que nuevamente se ponga atenci\u00f3n, a las habilidades y recursos necesarios para hacer frente a los temibles dispositivos explosivos improvisados (IED). Se observa que los IED siguen plenamente vigentes, que la tecnolog\u00eda disponible ha incrementado su eficiencia y letalidad, y que encuentran en los combates de \u00e1mbito urbano, su mejor y m\u00e1s letal escenario de empleo.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2015 Marines may be learning whole new ways to fight in a new kind of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2018\/05\/25\/marine-corps-eod-techs-will-soon-have-this-throwable-robot-in-their-arsenal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">littoral<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2018\/05\/25\/marine-corps-eod-techs-will-soon-have-this-throwable-robot-in-their-arsenal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">battlespace<\/a>, against different adversaries such as the Chinese military, but an old foe still lurks on any likely future battlefield: improvised explosive devices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">While the knowledge and training to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/military-honor\/salute-veterans\/2021\/11\/21\/vet-who-lost-legs-has-new-life-via-god-triathlons-hunting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">counter<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/military-honor\/salute-veterans\/2021\/11\/21\/vet-who-lost-legs-has-new-life-via-god-triathlons-hunting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IEDs\u00a0<\/a>didn\u2019t completely disappear, it did fade from prominence for future battle prep and widespread practice. But the threat continues to evolve.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/37mlVgb6UBI\" width=\"784\" height=\"442\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">During the Thursday panel on training and education at the 2022 Modern Day Marine Expo in Washington, Maj. Gen. Julian D. Alford, head of Training Command, was asked what lessons, if any, had been learned from the ongoing fight against the Russian invasion of Ukraine that could be applied to training now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cNo. 1 is we have to have counter-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinecorpstimes.com\/news\/your-marine-corps\/2021\/07\/23\/this-marine-veteran-races-ironmans-for-the-military-fallen-this-time-it-will-be-for-a-friend-he-lost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IED\u00a0<\/a>programs stood back up, period,\u201d Alford said. \u201cIt\u2019s criminal if we don\u2019t train our Marines on counter-IED before they deploy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alford noted that when the Russian forces pulled back from northern Kyiv, multiple Ukrainian civilians and soldiers were killed by IEDs left by the Russians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been preaching this for a long time \u2015 that the IED works,\u201d Alford said. \u201cSo, China\u2019s going to use the IED, Russia\u2019s using the IED, Iran, North Korea and, of course, extremists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Marine Corps working to stand back up that training in 2022, Alford said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">In a roundtable with media members following the panel discussion, Alford noted that the Corps previously had a contractor with previous military experience that would scour public sourced and classified reports to keep up with how IEDs were being used across the globe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Col. Gary McCullar, head of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trngcmd.marines.mil\/Units\/South-Atlantic\/MCES\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marine Corps Engineer School<\/a>\u00a0at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, is reworking the program right now to better incorporate existing and evolving IED threats, such as those observed in Ukraine, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe one we stood down had a lot of route clearance, road stuff, so we started to revamp it, with (Lt. Gen. (Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Tyler Thompson\/Navy)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cAll Marine units will train to operate in environments with an IED threat,\u201d according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marines.mil\/Portals\/1\/Publications\/MCO%203502.10.pdf?ver=2020-02-12-064259-903#:~:text=The%20service%2Dlevel%20program%2C%20managed,explosive%20device%20(IED)%20threat.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MCO 3502.10<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The order also requires all leaders to be familiar with the underlying tenets of IED warfare and how adversaries will employ them. And all forms of Marine air-ground task forces will establish mission essential task lists for operating environments with IEDs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Counter-IED training was prevalent across the Corps, through schools, predeployment training, Marine expeditionary unit training cycles and even through mobile training teams going to units at home station, he said. The Marines want to get back to that type of training.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 jQOUvm body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s a requirement in all of your (Geographic Combatant Commands) that you go through IED training,\u201d Alford said. \u201cSo, it\u2019s incumbent upon us to figure out how to do that for the Corps, because it\u2019s not going away.
