The grounds of West Point are abuzz with activity as cadets engage in a comprehensive series of training exercises designed to hone their leadership abilities and foundational military skills. At West Point, the summer months are a period of intense development and training that focuses on imparting critical thinking skills, fostering adaptability in challenging environments, and preparing the future leaders of the U.S. Army.

Area residents can expect to hear and see increased military activity, including infantry operations, artillery firing, weapons training, aviation operations, and military engineering projects. These demanding field exercises are crucial in preparing West Point cadets to meet the physical and mental challenges they will face as officers in the U.S. Army, ensuring they are ready to lead with competence and character.

As part of the Army’s push toward modernization, drones have been integrated into cadet summer training. Cadets, faculty, and staff from the Robotics Research Center and Department of Military Instruction collaborated to design, build, and deploy the drones. Cadets demonstrated their capabilities with the new drone technology and discussed it with BG Shane Reeves ’96, Dean of the Academic Board, during his visit last week.
