The SABIAMAR Mission (Constellation of two Argentinean- Brazilian satellites for acquiring information from the seas) is a joint project between CONAE and the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), within the framework of the Agreement for the Integration and Bilateral Coordination Argentina- Brazil.

The SABIA-Mar mission is conceived as an Earth Observation Mission with priority applications in the study of sea and coasts, being an important data source for studies of ocean colors at a local level and making a major international contribution.

Considering the importance of the mission for the Argentinean community, the initial distribution of roles was modified and CONAE took the whole responsibility for the SABIA-Mar 1 satellite, while AEB shall be responsible for the SABIA-Mar 2.

The specific needs of Argentina are to be satisfied with the SABIA-Mar 1 satellite. From the selected orbit, with a single platform one can get a two-day revisit both at the regional scenario (over the national coasts) as well as at a global scale, with a spatial resolution of 200 m and 800 m respectively. Once the SABIA-Mar 2 is orbiting, and with the whole constellation operative, the revisit shall be one day, for the regional and global coastal scenarios.

Argentina has finished the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) in  April 2016 and the SABIA- Mar 1 injection into orbit is planned for year 2020.
