China Unveils its drone-killing Laser weapon system

We’ve written before about China’s push to develop laser weapons systems, well finally we have some pictures to go with the words. The Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics revealed its Low Altitude Guard 1 system (known as Dikong Weishi in chinese) at the recent 2015 Beijing Weapons Expo. Resembling a shipping container with a turret strapped on top, the laser weapon system features a 10 kilowatt that can reportedly shoot down drones up to two kilometres away.

Its electro-optical turret can track objects to a distance of five kilometres, where its automated fire control system can lock onto suspicious drones and prepare to neutralize them. The Low Altitude Guard 1 was developed with the aid of China Jiuyuan Hi-tech Equipment Corporation (CJHTE). According to the Academy a more powerful truck mounted laser weapon system is already planned, this would make the technology far more mobile and increase its range of uses.
