Textron y Rheinmetall presentan arma anti-drones

Se ha desarrollado un arma antidrones con tecnología de la estadounidense Rheinmetall y del fabricante de vehículos terrestres no tripulados (UGV) Textron Defense Systems. El sistema “inteligente” de defensa aérea de corto alcance (SHORAD), denominado “Skyranger 30”, cuenta con una torreta automatizada de Rheinmetall combinada con un UGV robótico RIPSAW M5 desarrollado por Textron Defense Systems.


An anti-drone weapon has been developed with technology from American Rheinmetall and unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) manufacturer Textron Defense Systems.

The “smart” short-range air defense (SHORAD) system, dubbed the “Skyranger 30,” features an automated turret from Rheinmetall combined with a RIPSAW M5 robotic UGV developed by Textron Defense Systems.

According to its developers, the automated turret is capable of firing 1,250 30 mm airburst rounds per minute and can reportedly rotate 360° around its mount.

Further the combination of the Rheinmetall and Textron Defense Systems’ technology results in a completely autonomous anti-drone weapon design, its developers explained.

“The Skyranger 30 variant represents a significant leap ahead in c-UAS technology by coupling 360° air and ground surveillance with an autonomous 30mm Oerlikon Revolver Gun, Oerlikon AHEAD airburst ammunition, and short-range air defense missiles. The 30mm revolver gun provides ultimate firepower and precision at 1,250 rds/min, and when combined with the dynamically programmed airburst ammunition, enhances the probability of hitting even the smallest micro and nano drones.”

Additionally, the researchers suggest that the Skyranger 30 can better neutralize aerial threats, such as drones, than crewed vehicles, reportedly countering unmanned aerial systems with a roughly 90% kill rate within 1.86 miles.

The anti-drone technology can thwart swarming attacks and move alongside ground forces or protect stationary vital infrastructure from loiter, pop-up and dive attacks.
