Slovakia becomes Carl Gustaf M4 launch customer

Slovakia has become the first customer for the latest generation of the Carl Gustaf 84 mm shoulder-fired recoilless rifle, Saab announced on 16 September.

Deliveries of the Carl Gustaf M4 to the Slovak Armed Forces will take place in 2016, said the company.

1567552_-_mainThe M4 version was unveiled in September 2014 and uses new materials (titanium and carbon fibre) to reduce its length to less than 1,000 mm and its weight to 6.7kg (without a sight): 3kg lighter than the M3 and half the weight of the 14.2kg M2 version.

In addition, the M4 has been designed for use with intelligent sights to improve accuracy and to allow it to fire electronically programmable ammunition. It also features ergonomic improvements, and incorporates a manual safety and a round counter for the first time.
